by far...the worst was the ketchup and blue twisty bird brought in by McCarney and Gene Smith in the 90's.

I loved the 1986 (i think) Iowa state with the cyclone below the words. But the ome we have now is the best.

1983-1994 was the worst era and uniforms ever. This timeframe and everything associated with it should be erased from the archives

Agree. Absolutly hated the freaking navy blue and the stupid font that Dan McCarney picked out.

I loved the 87 helmets with "Cyclones" on the caps - this was the look while I was growing up. I wish we had yellow helmets now, as we would be the only team in the Big 12 with that look, but our current unis are boss.

83-86 is my favorite, I love the cyclone on the helmet. That helmet would look awesome in my man cave. There was even a mock up of it in the ISU pro combat thread awhile ago that was sweet

BuffetClone, I was VERY fortunate my sister found the 83-86 helmet at a garage sale...she texted me a "would you want this?" photo. Now it sits in my Cyclone room.

I agree with many folks on here, glad to move past the Spinning cyclone era.

I've always liked the 81-82 design as well.

Wow...I forgot there had been that many variations in the last four decades.

I like the 83-86, merely because I like including a tornado of some sort in the schools designs. I love our I-State logo, it has definitely given us a symbol that most can recognize, I just wish an actual Cyclone (tornado..) would be used more.

The Mac Era lid with the white facemask was so bad that I hope it was used as grounds for termination

That entire uni combo looked like the football gods took a red and yellow dump in JTS.

They had those, too. Better players were awarded red helmets, allowing opponents to key on them easier. Shrewd move.
