I wonder if the kid is can relate to his peers at all?

Of course not - He was homeschooled he therefore (according to stereotypes) has no social skills at all, is some sort of religous whack job, has been way oversheltered by his parents, will underperform in all work environments, and is destined to fail or destined to freak out and go postal at some point when he is finally allowed to be around normal people.

:smile::wink:

I actually know, or knew?, him... he was in my freshman honors group 4 years ago. It was different but not a big deal. I didn't keep in touch with anyone in my honors group though.

And I thought I was doing good making it out with a BS in engineering in 4 years including a spring/summer coop completed.

That is crazy...and he is going into theology? So, I could be competing with him for a job in a few years...this is kind of scary.

I'd like to see him pick up a doctorate or two then come back and head up Religious Studies at Iowa State.

Glad to see a 14 year old kept scholarships away from other college aged kids. And how the heck does a college accept you without a GED or high school diploma?

There is no requirement of having a high school diploma or GED to enroll in college. You just have to have the appropriate test scores and be accepted. (Although for most of us lowly mortals that means getting the high school diploma first!:goofy:)

What does age have to do with it? He met the requirements for a scholarship and was awarded one. Looks to me like he made pretty good use of his scholarship...

I had a buddy at ISU tht was on a full academic scholarship; got 2 straight 0.0 GPA's (freshman year) and was told not to come back the next semester. That's not good use of a scholarship...:eek:

There were a couple kids on my floor freshman year that were like that.... it's kinda sad.

He's a really nice guy if not a little socially out-of-place (but who wouldn't be in that situation?) We went to high school together and bump into each other from time to time on campus. Genuine genius, and one thing that they left out of the article is he was a National Merit Finalist. He could have gone anywhere so Iowa State probably feels very honored that he stuck around (although I guarantee his parents wouldn't let him go anywhere else).
