6'3, 258 lbs. QB sneak all day long.
Hill is 258 if he went on a starvation diet for a few weeks. He looks like a OL. The first time I saw him on the sidelines I simply laughed that he was actually the back-up QB. At Wisconsin all their QBs had to do was hand off the ball - Iowa does not have that luxury given the OL and RB room.

Would be great if they tried CDJ on a few looks in the slot or something, kid's a gamechanger, just get the ball into his hands.
I agree this would help Iowa's offense tremendously. Matt Campbell showed some ability to change and be less stubborn, bringing a watered down version of air raid to Iowa State the last 2 weeks. Is Kirk past the point of willingness to change though? Perhaps Iowa fans could get their wish. Even me as an ISU fan would think seeing Dejean lineup on offense in any capacity would be pretty cool.

I always thought Stanley did too.

Actual question

Does it matter who the players on Iowas offense are? Its never good and never will be. We could random pick 11 people from here and it would be the same strategy of waiting for the D and DT to score

I think it's less about being unwilling to change and more about KF not wanting to look like he's bending to the whims of fans/others who've been calling for CDJ to be used on offense for a while now. Especially if it's effective, then it would look like he's been wrong this whole time by not using him on offense. Who knows, but I'd be surprised if he made the move.

Best of luck to the poor guy, Tank McNamara's recuperation will proceed and he will be waving at the Kinnick crowd from the big building next door in no time.

Interesting. Yeah, on the ISU side we have seen some of what you are describing. There was public outcry from fans regarding the lousy special teams off and on during Campbell's time here. Last year was especially horrific and cost us a handful of games literally. Despite the outcry, Campbell had been stubborn about not needing a special teams specific coach, until that outcry got louder than it has ever been during and after last season. So what did he do, he (finally!) hired a ST coach this season. He also showed willingness to change the offensive philosophy after the Ohio game and hand the reigns to Scheelhaase a bit more, again, because the fans were sick and tired of the BS. And maybe it stings Matt a bit, but it looks like the fans have been correct on both accounts thus far. Special teams hasn't been immune to a gaff or two, but the specialists have been really good. Offense has looked a lot better since Ohio as well.

I guess I don't follow Iowa closely enough to know, but would imagine the Kirk is too old and stodgy to give a flying F about what fans think these days.

Probably some of that but also there is some injury risk involved too. Not only for his Iowa playing days, but also his NFL future. I would love to see him get a shot on offense, but at the same time it would suck to see him get hurt on offense.

It’s crazy but true. They could punt on first down every possession (except when in fg range) and still win a few games. Some of that is how good their defense and st are, more of it is how bad their schedule is.

I wonder if the qb has to come back to get his nil money. Or does he get paid on a yearly basis? How would you like to ask boosters for another $600k to pay that kid? He’s not very good.
Yeah, exactly. They play one of the worst major conference schedules of all time with a defense/special teams that maybe all time greats at manufacturing points

Wait a sec, Petras is still on the team? I thought he graduated and was gone. Seemed like he was there a long time already.

Enough said. When you play in a division that has been much more like the MWC than the other power conferences/divisions things aren’t getting tougher. They played their one good team for the year.
I don't disagree at all the the West is hot trash, but Utah State and WM were still by far the two best opportunities push the average up beyond 25 and they only got to 24 points with one. MSU feels pretty comparable to a mid pack West team this season and they got 26 points, and only on a wacky punt return late. Losing Cade isn't a killer and Penn State is very likely the only goose egg they lay this year. All I'm saying is 5 games in I feel like they were expecting better than 22 ppg. I don't see them averaging 30 the rest of the way hit 25 for the season. Purdue gives up points, but the Wisconsin game could be a 13-10 snoozefest.

There is, but probably more risk having him return punts. We're at Defcon 1 with our offense so I'd think the potential upside would be worth it but I agree KF is the most risk averse guy in college football and doubt we'll see it.

Yeah he is. He is hard to miss on the sidelines, I catch him in the background often and I don't even watch full Iowa games. He hasn't been in uniform or anything, but he's there and usually has a head set on.

Wisconsin will provide an opportunity IMO. With their new version of air raid offense, they are no longer a ground and pound eat the clock type of team. I think Iowa will give up a lot of points to them, but consequently I think just due to sheer number of possessions they will have in that game, they should be able to at least get to 20. This years Iowa/Wisconsin game will not be your fathers Iowa/Wisconsin game IMO

They just need to do it. Deion did it with Travis Hunter, and yes, he did get hurt, but that was due to a cheap shot rather than fatigue or stress. Dejean is a better player than Hunter IMO. Kirk just needs to swallow his pride and let it happen. Two way players are so rare, it would be good pub for Iowa.

Totally agree, but again I think in KF's mind it would amount to him doing what fans are telling him to do and he's not that guy.

These types of examples hopefully cool down the NIL deals eventually.
pay one person a ton of money to come to your team and he gets hurt, sucks, grades, etc. Not good ROI.
Feel bad for Cade, but iowa's road to the BigTen title game is over after this year.
They will probably end up winning out...just watch...lol Other than Wisconsin they will be favored in all games.
