I can't read the article (paywall), but I'm guessing context would be important here to avoid rehashing the same tired ol' in-state recruiting arguments and unreasonable backlash.

Does the article really focus on the Top 50 recruits inside the state of Iowa? If so, that's a bit of a silly premise. Our state is not a hot bed of D1 football talent. Focus on Top 10 at most when considering how well our own school's staff is identifying talent that can make reasonable contributions at the D1 level.

In-State Commit History (Top 10):
2019:
Iowa State - 3, ToE - 5
2020: Iowa State - 4, ToE - 4
2021: Iowa State - 1, ToE - 5
2022: Iowa State - 4, ToE - 4
2023: Iowa State - 5, ToE - 2
2024: Yeah, crappy this year. A lot of talent this year in Kinnick's backyard + Jack Campbell's little bro.
2025: Looks like we're in on 6 of the Top 10, including Curvey's son

This is because we've fallen off the last two seasons, while Iowa's been relatively successful.

Coming off 2020, we were mopping Iowa for in-state kids. A bunch of them have been total busts, but if we start winning again, we'll be fine.
What year are you referring to? If you're referring to the '21 class we definitely didn't clean up.

The only year recently you could probably argue that we "won" is the '23 class after they lost Proctor.

It's also NIL. They can pay much better than we can.
Just wait until they are officially in the P2, Getting even more money than now, and we can't sell recruits we play OU and Texas anymore. Our road keeps getting harder. for a brief moment, we were on the same platform and could sell that. the new BigTen is going to allow them to be them to never look back IMO.

that is what makes it so depressing about our current gambling situation. ISU has a razor-thin margin for error, we can't afford injuries, missed field goals and Gambling dismissals.

at least we are not Oregon state and WSU I guess....

We were beating them for quite a few 3-4 star guys (Dekkers and Deyo come to mind) that would have gone to Iowa a few years prior to that.

I don't follow recruiting that close, but it seemed like ISU was doing a lot better in-state a few years into the Campbell era than we ever had before.

Definitely need to start winning a LOT more in this series. KF owns CMC, plain and simple... and it pains me to say that. And outside of the OL, I think we've had the talent to beat Iowa, but they are 10x better at the fundamentals of the game and not making mistakes.
IMO, we have been running circles around them when it comes to recruiting the skill positions for the entire duration of the MC era. A shame it hasn't led to more wins in the series or better seasons overall.

Iowa has been the better recruiter of the state for a long time. This is nothing new.

What we need to focus on is the post Ferentz era. We need to be building relationships with high schools coaches so that if Iowa's next coach gets off to a rough start, we can be the destination of choice for Iowa High Schools players. This also means that we need to be a consistent winner, in that 6-9 win a season category. This is why tis season is important, because we need to have a winning season to show that we reloaded as opposed to being a losing program.

Any updates on Titus Cram from Bondurant-Farrar? He is ranked #10 and I think he attended the ISU camp this summer. He has a good offer list, but doesn't have any favorites listed in 247.

If it's not Brian I'm curious who they'll bring in. Does he have successful disciples like Hayden did??
I would guess that Levar Woods is probably the front runner if the DC isn't HC material. But it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to pry KSU's coach away. Not that he's part of that coaching tree, but he is from Iowa.

I find it funny if you ask iowa fans about KF, they always say he's got another 5 years left in him. He had 5 years two years ago and he's got 5 years now. At some point, he's going to retire and it wouldn't hurt my feelings if things tailed off with a grandpa coach just like it did with Fry.

People need to stop with the P2 crap. The Big 12 is in a great spot and is going to have a seat at the table.

@GetAwesome said it best. The top 50 kids in this state are not playing meaningful minutes in D1 programs. The top 15 have a chance, and Iowa State has been competitive in that group. Beat Iowa more, if you want more Iowa High School players.

I'm not sure whether former Cyclone and Lo-Ma great Matt Straight is still their head coach. Here is the 2024 Number 1 recruit from that DMR article:

1. Grant Brix, OT, Logan-Magnolia

Previous ranking: 2

Height/weight: 6-foot-6, 280 pounds

Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Boston College, Duke, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Miami, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Stanford, Tennessee, Wisconsin

A relentless protector on the line. Makes pushing defenders a few yards look easy. Brings natural instincts to the game and, somehow, has room to grow.

Kleiman is really close with the KSU AD. I'd be surprised if he left.

From a March 27, 2023 interview with Grant Brix of Logan-Magnolia -- free access to article and audio:

... As one of the top recruits in the nation, Brix says he does have a tentative timeline on making his decision. He hopes to make the call before the start of his senior year, but he prefaces that he won’t force it. As it pertains to the decision, Brix will be weighing at least three factors.

“Building a good relationship with possible future teammates is a good start,” he said. “Then obviously connecting well with the position coach and then the academics.”

Listen to much more with Brix from Monday’s UFR in the full interview below. ...

I don't think he could commit here if he wanted to right now.
