Here is a few other people, besides Jamie Pollard, who deserve part of the 'blame' for ISU's recent lack of success.

1) Gene Chizik- Claiming he was firmly entrenched in Ames, leaves 6 weeks later.
2) Wesley Johnson- No communication with coach, then transfers to Syracuse.
3) Jim Boeheim- Gives coaching clinic at AIB, ISU player transfers to his school within days.
4) Mike Taylor- Lack of judgment
5) NCAA Committee- denied Lucca's FR season
6) Wayne Morgan- Lack of discipline, not bringing players good for ISU
7) The best Big 12 North Football Conference in history
8) The sudden rising of teams like Missouri and Oklahoma in basketball
9) The Iowa State Athletic Budget in comparison to other schools
10) Bret Culbertson- if only, if only, Bret makes that kick against KU...

11. (This should be No. 1) You, the fan. Get off your butt and do something about it. Buy season tickets. Join the Cyclone Club. Quit complaining every time prices are raised or changes are made to seating/parking arrangements that are designed to bring in more income. Go to the games. Stop leaving early. Get to your seat on time and stop lingering for a last beer at the tailgate. Go to the spring game. Go to a softball game or volleyball game. Quit calling out players and former players in public. What good does that do, other than make prospects not want to play for us if that's the way we treat our own?

It's a week until football season begins. Tis more the season of unrealistic expectations, opposed to one for endless excuses.

Can we get a "Do not open til X-mas" label for this thread?

I think you could not only argue the rankings of these but even some of them don't belong on this list. I'm sorry but #5 doesn't even belong on the list. Look at what Lucca did last year and can you honestly say he would have been the difference in the lackluster season he lost? #7 and #8 you just have to deal with, it happens all across the country. You just have to build programs that can still compete when the rest of the conference is strong.

No to the best Big 12 north in history. The North was much better back around 2000 when KState, Nebraska, and Colorado were all having 10 wins seasons frequently and winning the Big 12.

Other teams have declined while Missouri and Oklahoma have risen. I don't view this as an excuse.

I have a problem with your Wayne Morgan complaint. Morgan's players were never in trouble with the law. They were very successful on the court. Why is Wayne Morgan always to blame? He took ISU to its last NCAA tournament. He won at Texas and at Kansas. He had a seven game Big 12 winning streak. Wayne Morgan can no longer be blamed for our lack of success in basketball. It is on McDermotts shoulders now.

I have no ill will towards WM... but if he is such a good coach why isn't he doing that now?

If you blame Wayne Morgan, you better be blaming Dan McCarney. The man was responsible for his own demise here, and his failure to capitalize on numerous opportunities in 04 and 05 cost us a major opportunity to move up the ladder.

I never said he was John Wooden Jr. But his accomplishments cannot be disputed. I think McDermott is a great game day coach. He is now finally starting to realize the athletes that must be recruited to have success at the Big 12. I think the future of ISU basketball is bright under McDermott. I just don't think Wayne gets the respect he deserves for the accomplishments his teams had on the court.

Ah yes. Blame the fans. Despite the fact that they are supporting the programs far more than a lot of other schools would if they had to watch the amount of awful seasons that we have. Or the ones that are still contributing despite the fact that the price per game keeps going up while the quality on the field has decreased. Yes. Blame the fans. Theyre clearly our biggest problem. :jimlad:

I won't say the top North teams are better but I think the bottom teams are a lot better. In the early Big 12 days KU and MU were so bad that D1A schools had a shot. ISU's team last year would have beaten those teams pretty easily.

I have a problem with most of this list. It is not Jim Boeheim's fault we are not succeeding in basketball right now. It is not Brett Culbertson's fault that Dan McCarney refused to recruit a better kicker than him. Lucca in his freshman year would not have gotten us to the NCAA tourney. The one on this list that needs to be underlined and in bold is number 9. Our athletic budget is the number one reason we struggle to compete in the Big 12 conference. Missouri and Oklahoma had a couple of down years in basketball but they both have rich basketball traditions so you knew they wouldn't be down forever. Gene Chizik leaving was THE best thing that could have happened to ISU football. He never wanted to be here in the first place.

I would amend this as 'You, the alumni and former fan that are ignoring the program.', especially the alumni that are still living in Iowa. Just thinking back to all the people I was associated with in school, probably less than 10% go to any games. Ok, some are living out of state, but most of these people have not even come back for one game or gone to any games in their area (I am talking to some of you Denver Alum!!!!). When I see them or run into an Alum, I always bring up this topic. Their reply is something like too busy or just not interested. While they still care about Iowa State, they just don't have any passion. These are the people that need to step up IMO.

The current fans I have no problem with. The fact they are attending games is good enough for me now.

How is the head basketball coach not on that list also? I forgot, we are still blaming Wayne Morgan.

Its idiotic to lay blame on Gene Chizik without including the man who hired him as well.

Its a ridiculous argument anyway. Obviously the Athletic Director bears some responsible for the state of his programs (good or bad).... it is his job.

And Jim Boeheim? Kickers from years ago? This list is just ridiculous. Also the last couple years have definitely not been the strongest in the history of the Big 12 North. Really this is a terrible list.

Sudden rising of Oklahoma and Missouri? Missouri has been good for one freaking year! And Oklahoma has been good for a long, long time, they just had their biggest down years in the years before the last couple!

I'm sure Jamie Pollard knew that the hottest assistant coach in America was going to completely suck for 2 years and then bolt. That's why he hired him, right?

May as well blame the Pres of the university - after all didn't he hire Pollard.

Then lets blame who ever hired the Pres....

Yes, you are right. The success of the coach is not at all the responsibility of the Athletic Director who hires him.

Let's be realistic here. You can't blame Chizik for doing a bad job at Iowa State without blaming the man who hired him also. That is the reality of it.

I am not trying to dog on Pollard but the list is just ridiculous and makes no sense.
