I agree. Let them only choose to do things that are easy. If they ever think something is too hard, they should just quit. That is exactly how I want to raise my children.

I grew up a hawk fan in south east Iowa in a family with season tickets to football and basketball games. I finally saw the light in highschool when I realized I'd go to ISU. Became a cyclone fan and I wouldn't have it any other way regardless of how many games we win or lose. Cheer for someone else if winning a bunch of football games is the only thing important to you and your children. As for me I'll stay a loyal son forever true, and I'll raise my children the same.

I hear you, but after a few decades of ISU football it makes it hard to give a crap anymore. Not to mention the ol' blood pressure going through the roof. Oh well, at least we don't suck at basketball.

With that being said... GO CLONES!!!!!!

I have to lie to my kids each week . Dad-do you think the Clones are going to win this week?

This makes no sense. Why lie to your kids about something as petty as sports? When mine ask, I'm honest and tell them "No, but i hope they do."

I live out of state and have decided to stay out of if and let my kids decide.

I can't push this misery on them.

I do hope they enjoy Cyclone basketball at least

Yup - it's so fun for your kids to cheer for a loser.

You use to be able to show them the first half before we collapsed. Now we look like jello in the first quarter. Paul, we came out fast the first quarter, but we made some big mistakes out of the chute.

I don't raise bandwagon kids or tavern hawks. Life isn't easy. Loyalty is important. Might as well teach them that. And basketball season is just around the corner. And Mike Warren deserves some fans.

I just tell my daughter the team with the fewest points wins.

Let them pick a winning team growing up. Don't let them fall into this toilet bowl of hope.
exactly.... be helicopter parents as long as you can....they expect it from you, you have an intense desire to be a cool parent (in the eyes of others) and live vicariously through their amazing athletic exploits like 8-yr old soccer games

Be sure to pay for their cell phone bills, insurance, car, gas, repairs, rents---well into their 20's. It's what helicoptering is all about.

oh wait....all this stuff is commonplace. nevermind. Just don't send them to Iowa City. Send them to that drunk socialist republic called /iowa City

Jesus ******* ******. It is sports. Freakin' sports. It ain't life and death. If the performance of sports team impacts your life then you have a sad life, my friend. Its sports. Don't wrap your personal identity up in who you cheer for. Cheering for a good team doesn't make you better and supporting a losing team doesn't make you bad. Take a break and get some perspective. Cripes.

All kids should know it is better to cheer "Go Cyclones" from the suburbs than "Go Hawkeyes" from the trailer park.

Young (and old) Cyclone fans will all be happy once basketball season rolls around. Plus, it's just sports after all.
