Let's be honest the OSU has had good teams within the last 3 years but before that they were mostly a middle sometimes mediocre team in the Big 12, so if they win the BCS Title, do they become a national powerhouse like their bigger brother OU and Texas and USC and Ohio Stae?

Any team with T. Boone money is a national power house in my eyes. It's true, money can buy anything, including national championships.

Nope. They are still the second choice in their own state. They will have to find that lighting in a bottle with under the radar recruits every year. They found Blackmon and Weeden, and are getting some good recruits, like Herschel Sims, to come along, but they are not recruiting at the level of an OU or UT. The good thing for them is I believe OSU has the better staff, and that makes a world of difference. I think OU gets thumped this year.

Nope, it took those teams years and years to become national powerhouses. I'm just convinced that Mike Gundy is an excellent coach with a huge, lucky break in Weedon. OSU is at their peak and I don't think they'll stay this high for long.

This depends on how well JD Walsh comes along. That kid looked phenomenal in HS and 7 on 7. He could step right in and deliver, but we will have to see.

No doubt OSU will be good under Gundy but I just don't see them being a consistent 10 W team. Walsh does look to be a stud too.

Gundy and OSU remind me a lot of when another OSU (Mike Riley and Oregon State) rolling a few years ago. They play in similar sized stadiums, have similar young coaches, and are usually second fiddle to the other school in the state.
5,6 win teams eventually became 8,9,10 win teams.
Oregon State is falling back down to earth a little, and I think Okie State will after the QB and WR are done. I don't think they'll be bad, just not at this level.

With their money, (TBoone) and Gundy at the helm for them coaching, I see them as a big powerhouse in conference for sure.

If they win out and go to the title game and win, you better believe that will make a huge impact on recruiting for them for years to come.

On the same level as USC, OU, or tOSU? I don't think so. Those schools have decades of tradition backing up their status as elite programs. Money can buy you a lot of things (see also: Oregon), but tradition is a hard thing to overcome. But I think oSu could establish themselves in the second "tier" of programs, close behind the traditional elites.

I think Gundy is obviously a very good coach, but I remain to be convinced that he's a great coach. Beat us, and then beat OU and I'll believe. But I expect them to lose to OU yet again this year. Hard to be a "powerhouse" when your best team ever can't beat your in-state rival on your home field. If I'm wrong and they win, and can keep Gundy around, then they will be very good for a long time to come. If I'm right about Gundy, this is probably their peak, and we'll see them slip back down a bit (they should still be pretty good though).

Hell, T. Boone is 83, what happens when his money stops flowing?

I'm sure there is a pretty good size gift for OSU in his will

Even with T. Boone's financial woes over the last 10 years I have read something of the endowment approaching $500 M. Even at 1% that is $5 M per year FOREVER without ever touching the principle or other funds designated for immediate use.

Kind of a morbid thought but want to support ISU long after you have left this Earth? Buy an insurance policy for a couple hundred K and name ISU as a 50% benefactor. At some point, your $22.50 a month will mean 100's of thousands towards ISU. Problem is, you will be dead.

Do it.... for the children!

Yes is the correct answer.

It doesn't mean that they will ever move up ahead of OU, or UT, in the pecking order, but they will be good as long as they have the $$$ to build up everything they are doing.

They are going completely state of the art in all of their facilities. That will have all of the impact in the world to attract kids.

They will not get the cream of the crop that OU and UT get, but they will get kids ahead of everyone else in our league. aggy is making it harder on themselves opening up Texas to other schools, but the footprint and the $$$ will make Okie State a force for the forseeable future.

Add the fact that Gundy is an alum, so where is he going? They will pay whatever they need to pay to keep him.

Yeah Okie State is the next Oregon.

No NO & NO again....

to be a national powerhouse or nationally recognised team you have to win over a long number of years....

Like Nebraska that could not win a game in 1961* (actually they won 3) and won nine games in 1962 and been winning ever since....

If you ever want to be a national powerhouse you have to win not only conference titles but National Titles...

The BlueBloods in my humble opinions are as follows...Nebraska-Oklahoma-Texas-Ohio State-Michigan-Notre Dame- So California-Alabama-etc...there maybe more but this is the bluest of the bluebloods...

Okie State will have to win for the next 50 years just to stand in the doorway to national powerhouse imho...

I think they will be very good from now on. But the current QB is really really good, and they will take a big step backward when he is gone. Everyone does.

See ISU with Seneca and Sage.
Mizzoou with the two D-bags they had down there.
Kansas with Todd Reesing.

College game is all about the QB. Give OSU an average QB and they are good, but not great.

I have a ton of respect for Gundy. I was looking at their recruiting stuff on Rivals, talk about doing more with less!

I think they will continue to be nationally relevant but it will take several years of consistently winning 10 to be a powerhouse and be mentioned with the good ol' boys.

That said, I think they have a hell of a thing going on down there and think they are on their way.
