I've turned off my security software. I hate how much they slow down my computer. How much of a risk am I at because of that?

Did you expect Missouri to beast ISU? Yes. So computer hackers can find an open channel within thirty minutes. And we have had a fellow driving around in our neighborhood checking out wireless systems from his car last year from his laptop.WiFi beware.

Also routers come with a standard password that needs to be changed to something unique. Did you use a new password for that?

And the old keystroke at the ATM or use of a hidden camera.

Yes, WF had a problem awhile back:

I agree. That is unbelievable and low by WF. Consider changing to a different bank. Ask for new credit card numbers also.

I've banked with Wells and didn't use my SSN but yeah...

For a long time ISU's Access Plus could be accessed with your SSN before they switched it to your student ID number

(And none of us have ever seen a list of grades put up based on your student ID number...)

(yeah I know usually it's just the last 6, or something like that but still...)

Depends upon how careful you are.

If you leave your machine running while not at home or while you're asleep, spybot and adaware can run without interfering with your usage.

AVG makes a good antivirus software that doesn't take nearly the amount of horsepower to run as others (norton and mcafee especially are resource hogs) - and there are others that aren't bad.

If you're careful about what you're doing, you should be ok - but some things can just help themselves to your machine anymore. I would certainly recommend running a system scan from time to time even if you aren't running the real time shield.
