I get around
I have tradition that I have passed on to my children and wife. I would love for you all to join in on it. Every time I see Hawkeye gear in a store. I pick up the next shirt I see, preferably a Cyclone shirt and immediately cover it up. I have done this to whole sections of stores before, rearranging their display. There is no need for people to see those types of things, especially a paying customer like myself.
I do this religiously also and my wife distances herself from me when I do.

I thought long and hard on this question and started to write a post in my mind and realized that there would be no end to the post. I then thought, the better question is "What part of me isn't ISU?" and the answer is that I can't think of anything about me that isn't ISU.

However, I can reasonably say that my ISU connections go back to before there was an ISU. In doing genealogical research I found, to my great delight, that my great, great grandfather's farm was purchased by the state to become part of ISU in about 1866. He had owned the pioneer farm for quite some time prior to 1858 when the Iowa Legislature officially established the Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm (ISU).

So, did this get them great seats at the old stadium?

chuckle.... nope, he died in 1867. However, just last month I was able to find his grave in a remote, secluded cemetery in Ames. The Rhoads/Hoiberg era has stirred up his interest in ISU sports and he and other past Cyclone greats are working feverishly behind the scenes to help us out.

here are the highlights:
2 buildings on campus are named after my great great uncle and another after his brightest student

I have missed 1 isu home football game in my entire life (21 seasons) and that was for my grandmothers funeral, got a speeding ticket after isu scored twice in 49 seconds on the drive back to ames. talked the cop down from 79 in 55 to 61 in 55 by telling him what station the game was on

dad is an alum
current student
have converted at least 5 of my friends away from hawkeyedom into the light of cyclone-anity
still get misty eyed whenever I hear Pete Taylor's voice
the 05 iowa game and 2012 oklahoma state game are 2 of the top 5 days of my life

I've been to every home football game for the past 12 years (i'm 20) with my parents, brother, grandparents, 2 uncles and 1 aunt. I've been to 4 bowl games since 1999 and also various away games through the years. I've been following basketball since 1998 when I would watch all the games on TV (I hate Eduardo Najera). I've had student basketball tickets for the past 4 years. I get at least 2 articles of ISU clothing for every birthday and Christmas.

I'm a pretty big fan!

While half of my closet is filled with ISU clothes and an entire wall of my cubicle is covered with ISU stuff, I have my ISU diploma. That's as ISU as I need to be.

How ISU are you? Simple:
A) You get a Season Ticket even though you live 5 hrs from Ames.
B) You Donate to the Cyclone Club.
C) You wear ISU clothes out in public, especially if it is in NON-ISU territory.

I just bought a Hawkeye garbage can from my neighbors garage sale for $4 and walked home and threw it in my Waste Management garbage can where it belongs.

You could have filled it with sand and used it for taget practice. I am all about reuse.

Some characteristics for a true Cyclone Fanatic:

When you travel to areas far from Iowa, and see a stranger wearing either an ISU or and Iowa shirt/hat, you great them by yelling "Go Cyclones!"

Your pet has at least one ISU related item (collar, dog dish, etc.)

Your canned response to anything a Hok fan says is "Seneca Wallace!"

You can name three campus traditions off the top of your head.

You planned a wedding around an ISU sporting event.

You avoid any clothing combination that includes both black and yellow.

You got it here, need to expand to 10 questions.
I am 4 out of 6 on these. Would be 5/6 but my wedding was actually same day as ISU vs Iowa FB game many years ago. Oops.

Green hills for thy throne
and for crown of golden melody
ringing in the hearts of all who bring thee
love and loyalty.
Dear alma mater
make our spirits great
true and valiant
like the bells of Iowa State.

The marching band sings this song before dismissal every game day win or lose. It can feel jubilant or tug on your heartstrings (especially after a tough defeat). I grew up a hawk, but saw the light. Thank you, Ames. Another loyal son here.

I graduated in 72, my wife in 73, one son in 03 and the other is there now. Been a season ticket holder in football and basketball for about 40 years and I've had pets named Cy, Tinsley and Kato.
