Too soon.....that’s just too damn soon. This worked out well the last time an Ames BBQ staple changed ownership.
Look at how great Battle's is doing now!

Wowsers, had to happen sometime, but hopefully the changes won't be too extreme. Because there will be changes though the press release says not.
They will make changes. But they will do it slowly or people will have a shitfit.
If they bring back the beef ribs, I can deal with some price changes.Didn’t they try a couple of sites in Des Moines that didn’t last? I’m not sure what they have translates them other areas.
None the less, goodbye reasonable prices.
With this sale, I'm assuming the buyer is going to try and franchise this out or start expanding themselves.
HP tried that a while ago and it failed.
When did they do that? I went for undergrad in 2006 and left the state in 2014.
There was one on Merle Hay by the interstate in DSM, but they named it something different. Same food, same sauce, but it failed pretty quickly.
So 15-20 years ago?
It's an anomaly that HP has duped a community into thinking it is somehow special. It'll never work anywhere else. There was one on Merle Hay by the interstate in DSM, but they named it something different. Same food, same sauce, but it failed pretty quickly.
I heard they want to expand to Ankeny Prairie Trail area. Saw it on urbandsm forum.

Shelby's Southern Smokehouse in Nashua is owned by a guy (Shelby) that used to work at/with Battles. That BBQ sauce is as close to Battles as I have found. It is fantastic.
I miss the old one on Hayward that fit about 12 people in it and the bathroom was about 1.5'x1.5'.I had to look up where Nashua is and wow that's in BFE I'll never get close to. Although I know a couple from New Hampton if we ever head that way.
I miss the little things about Battle's, like the Texas Toast and Lemonade.
I haven't been to Ames in some time and that's the worst damn news. This worked out well the last time an Ames BBQ staple changed ownership.

Knapp was hilarious. Your name?
I remember you...I worked the backline (mainly the ribs and chicken) with knapp
Jimmy’s BBQ in Boone is run by a guy that used to work at battles. It’s damn good and the closest I’ve found to the original Battles. My buddy and I had a rotation of battles and Great Plains for lunch back in high school. I miss being able to eat like that and not have it hit the waistline.I had to look up where Nashua is and wow that's in BFE I'll never get close to.
