Every couple of years the Goonies sequel seems to make its way across the Internet. I think it's fake. I'll believe it when I see it.

It's such an interesting case, because the whole spirit of the movie would totally land with Gen Z, but the actual jokes they used 100% would NOT.

It's the reverse Blazing Saddles. People always say "you couldn't make Blazing Saddles today" and there would undeniably be people that wouldn't look past the literal language used and make a scene, but if you actual pay attention to the situations, the message, who's the butt of the jokes, etc, it's 100% a tear down of racism, sexism, and American exceptionalism.

That sounds a lot like critical thinking, and I think we can all agree no one's a fan of that these days.

Have faith, it's Spielberg so it's got a strong chance of being excellent. Beetlejuice getting rave reviews should lend some more positivity.

At some point we should probably discuss the collapse of public interest in original entertainment content.

I’m think a lot of it is trying to cash in on nostalgia. The youth that grew up with these movies that are getting sequels are now grown up and presumably have money to burn. It wasn’t the younger generation that was excited for Beeteljuice or even the Star Wars sequels.

I do feel for my kids though. It seems there is very little for new ideas out there. So they’re not going to have that same love for movies of their youth just because Hollywood is more focused on getting their parents attention and money than the kids’.

Hollywood is creatively and almost literally bankrupt.

People don’t go to the theater for original stories anymore. Honestly I can’t blame them.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is proof.

I have never seen a remake that made me dislike the original, so I don't care if they do it even if they suck.

FYI, Finding Ohana, is already a remade Goonies an was pretty decent honestly.
