Well we had some excitement last night. About 6 pm the tree in our front yard right in front of the living room window got struck by lightning. Apparently the bolt traveled down the sap right under the bark of the tree. It blew a bunch of bark off of the tree especially in the bottom 5 feet of the tree. We found chunks of bark all over but notably a chunk about a foot and a half long that had been blown across and down the street over 100 feet from the tree. We were all sitting in the LR and daughter and I saw it happen. Lucky that the integrity of the tree doesn't appear to be immediately impacted. We will have to just try to help the tree fight off pests and disease if we want to keep it. We do because they are a matched pair of lindens on either side of our driveway.

It blew out our cable boxes but our TVs were fine. Our next door neighbors also lost their cable boxes and one TV. It must have traveled through the cable lines. Their TV was on a surge protector but bought it anyway.

About 10-15 minutes before we were out on the deck and daughter was sitting on a tree swing in the back yard. It hadn't started raining yet, but the lightning was starting to pick up so I told her she should probably get away from the tree and come inside. It is pretty rare that nature this dramatically proves me right...

This shot probably doesn't entirely do it justice since most of the bark you see to the left of the denuded portion is just hanging there not really covering anything.

How do you pick a brand since all of them seem to be junk now as far as reliability and life span?
It does sort of seem that way. We pick based upon the combination of dimensions, color, accessories we prefer, price and reviews that are generally good. . We then hope for the best. (Our last Whirlpool fridge lasted about 20.5 years). Also, I try to stay away from the Electrolux brands (our Gibson washer/dryer and Frigidaire dishwasher pooped out pretty quickly).

If necessary, your daughter's boyfriend's dad has pretty much become an expert at taking down trees. Because nobody wants me operating a chainsaw, I've pretty much become an expert at hauling branches to a trailer.

This made me think about how the Emerald Ash Borer is changing baseball - likely forever. Ash used to the go-to wood for MLB bats, but there is less and less quality ash wood available every year.
I wonder if I could strike a deal with Louisville slugger for the 13 dead ones, I've still got to take down :/

Looks like I will be blessing our friends in the twin cities with my presence twice this next month or so. Nothing like a kids birthday party and then fourth of July in beautiful Anoka...

The good news is that you are just across the river from me when you are in Anoka. If you can get someone to watch the kids, do go to The Hardware Store speakeasy.

If I recall correctly, I believe your other stop is in maybe Eden Prairie?

I dated a woman from Owatonna. She had a strange name, was snotty, but God did bless her well.
Sounds like a friend of my foreman's. He only dates 9s and 10s, which by the hot crazy matrix, are also a 10 crazy. And a lot of them have strange names. He said he did it with 100 girls in the last 3 years.
