I am still having problems connecting to CF, only lately it has been much worse. I haven't been able to access the site for a week or so from home. Every other site works fine, but I time out whenever trying to go to CF. In the past, I have taken the advice here to do a DNS flush, and have spent considerable time with Qwest Cust. Service, to no avail. I have researched online to the best of my ability, but there has been nothing that works.

This is killing me, and will really be bad when there is actually some Cyclone stuff going on! I am thinking that it is worth my first born son if someone can figure this out for me. (He doesn't know this yet.)

Please email me at [email protected] if you have any suggestions.

Ok first thing to check, can you look up the ip address of CF? We need some help trying to figure what exactly the issues is.

To look up the ip

Start->run type cmd
then type nslookup www.cyclonefan

root@brianh oracle]# nslookup www.cyclonefanatic.com
Server: 10.4.1.4
Address: 10.4.1.4#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.cyclonefanatic.com
Address: 72.232.247.226

What do you get there?

I am at the library right now, the only place I can access the site. This makes it hard to troubleshoot with anyone, so if you are willing to email me your instructions, I will try them! Thanks!

You've got my e-mail from before, so feel free to contact me anytime. Brian gave you some good things to try, so copy 'em and e-mail the list to yourself so you can try it from home.

It's very odd that you're having this much trouble.

You could also try going through a anonymous proxy server from home. That might help determine if it is a setting on your PC or something to do with your ISP. Just my 2 cents.

isucyfan e-mailed this to me...

Thanks for helping again. I tried what brianhos suggested and got this: (I'd email it to him, but can't access the site, as I am at home now.)

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6000]
Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Users\Ryan>nslookup www.cyclonefanatic.com
Server: dslmodem.domain.actdsltmp
Address: 192.168.0.1:53

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.cyclonefanatic.com
Address: cPanel®

Does that tell you anything?? I am limited in my knowledge about this.

Thanks again...

Bingo this is the problem. He is trying to lookup DNS off of 192.168.0.1 which is most likely his router/modem.

(THIS IS ONLY IF YOU HAVE QWEST DSL)

So one easy thing to do, is to add qwest main resolver to your DNS config as a secondary server.

72.232.247.226 is resolver1.qwest.net

So Right click on my network places on your desktop, right click on local area connection choose properties... Choose internet TCP, click on properties...

Then type that address into the second DNS server, and use 192.168.0.1 for your first one.

The other option is to figure out why your modem is not passing on requests for DNS.

192.168.0.1 is DLink's addressing of their routers. Although, perhaps other devices use that addy as well. Not really sure.

I know Linksys uses 192.168.1.1. I checked the 192.168.0.1 and it took me to a Qwest page for my Actiontec DSL modem.

You can do a tracert 192.168.0.1 to see what devices are between your PC and your actiontec modem.

I am having the same problem at home with Qwest. I will try your suggestions when I get home later and let you know if I can get my problem cleaned up. It has been very frustrating. I am afraid I am still going to have problems, or the problem is my router, because I use my lap top from the office at home and at the office it gets to CF just fine.

I have Qwest DSL at home and this problem started like 3-4 weeks ago. Office works fine, it is just when I go home with my lap-top and sign in on my home wireless network.

Brianhos,

I followed your steps (I have Vista, which made them a little different, but I figured it out) and it seemed to work! I am on CF from home for the first time in a week or more. I am cautiously optimistic, as this happened last time, where I thought the problem was solved, but it turned out to be just the sporadic success I occasionally had in connecting. This seems more like the real deal, though, as right after I changed the settings and rebooted my modem, I connected.

I believe I may owe you my first born son...he's almost 6 and eats a lot of peanut butter and jelly. He's not real good around the house chore-wise, but he may be malleable enough to be molded into a child slave. Let me know if you want standard or expedited shipping.:biggrin9gp:

Seriously, thank you. You have made my day.

Excellent...You owe me a beer at the first tailgate too :)

Seriously, you have my email address if anything else comes up this weekend, just fire a message off.

Rock on...hats of to Brian for helping out! I knew it had to be a DNS issue somehow but couldn't get it figured out.

Will be good to have ya back isucyfan. :)
