Today, I'm around 185 lbs and probably 12-14% body fat. I'm staying away from the gym right now due to the holidays and high cases. However, I have recently gotten more into weight lifting. I'd like to get to around 185 lbs at 10% body fat and maintain there.

I won't be lifting for a long time but it's always interesting that even 2-3 days after a simple circuit workout, you can really feel the 'lean' tone.

Definitely agree. I really just started lifting as a focus in mid-October. Even after a few weeks of just 4 days a week of lifting, I could already see the differences in my upper body. Without really even focusing on cutting fat, I could see a lot more lean muscles coming through and veins popping that I didn't know existed.

Yep! And a change in energy/mood comes with for me. Running does the same and I've been elated in finding that since I started up again. Even walking although not preferred as a work out at least helps.

Running for me also counts as a mental health exercise. Running meditation to focus on the now. No music. No distractions.

Pivoted to more weight lifting in May when I blew out my foot. When I run a lot I look like a runner (as much as this body will allow)

When I lift weights I look and feel more like a guy who lifts (duh)

I like the lifter look. Went wild and got some adjustable dumbells. A total luxury item, but they are dang cool.

This is similar for me. I do put music on for motivation, but generally don't focus on it. I love audiobooks and podcasts, but I can't do them while running. Don't know what it is, but my brain just turns off when running. I'll run for 45 minutes and not absorb a single second of a podcast. So, I just put on music for a little motivation when needed.

I went to a meditation class years ago. At the end the instructor asked everyone what they thought. I said it felt like running.

Dude lit up and talked about chasing your 'windhorse'. But it was really just about feeling your body and your surroundings. Being completely in the moment. Not the distance, but only the next step.

I actually run faster without music or distraction. Next step. Next breath.

I'm kicking around the idea of adjustable weights or something but not sure... I put some weights and a gallon of water in a dry bag to do some things with in the spring but it's not very stable.

I walk with no music but go back and forth on running with/without music. Agree that going without to take everything in is great, but my music is also more stuff I can get lost in and not for energy. A Dylan song from Blonde on Blonde is basically a mile or more. :)

No phones allowed though and I'll use a tiny MP3 player with chorded ear buds forever.

I'm 6'2" and around the 230 mark. How tall are being you're at 185? For me to be at that weight, I would look like at stick.

I started back at the gym Nov 1. I mean my 70 year old neighbor has been going back since August and he doesn't mask up and hangs out in the sauna every day. He's also lost a brother and nephew to Covid since March. Not that it is the best thing to go to a gym right now, but a gal talk with at the told me that she went later in the day and it was lot busier, so she comes in at 5 am now since there are only about 7-8 people that come in at that time. Since I'm not supposed to run or jog due to really bad leg/foot injury; elliptical, and stationery bike are my best friends along with regular biking. I could swim but, it's not my thing. Just glad I got the drive back to go and work out for an hour everyday.

I’m with you on that question.... I’m in the 6’2 range and when I started farrells, I was 237 and 27% body fat. I realize it’s likely not attainable but have already dropped a few percentages from a body fat standpoint as well have lost about 10lbs 6 weeks in. I ‘d love to get back down to college weight of 195 ish but I would be more than happy getting down around the 200-205 range.

I'm 6'2" as well! And yes, I'm a bit of a stick. I wear 30Wx34L jeans. I was very lean at 175lbs but did not have much muscle mass. Thus, my focus on adding muscle. If I could sit in the 185-190lbs at 10% body fat, that would be my deal. It would make me much more muscular, but also lean. I lost 20 lbs at Farrell's in the 10 week program, then lost another 20 lbs in the 10 weeks that followed. I was honestly addicted to working out for a while and was going overboard. I was eating 1800-2000 cals a day, but burning 600-800 in my Farrell's KB workouts. So I was at a huge deficit. Going forward, I'm going to cycle between bulking and cutting phases but with a focus on weightlifting. I'm going to follow the Bigger, Leaner, Strong program (check out the book and social media feeds if you're interested).

And I get what you're saying regarding the gym. It's different for everyone. I was going at 6am so there were 10ish people in there. It's a smaller space, but usually only 3-4 people in the weights area. However, I was the only one who was masking at all. And the gym left it up to the individuals to clean the equipment after use. The facility itself was doing nothing in terms of sanitation. I was fine with it at first, but as I got to thinking about my exposure (especially when cases skyrocketed recently), I decided it was unwise of me to be doing that. Especially with the holidays coming and we do plan to see a very limited number of family members.

This was exactly my goals as well. My goal was to get to 205 lbs after the 10 weeks. I started at 221 and 26%. I ended up at like 198.5 lbs or so after the 10 weeks. Then, I just kept that momentum going and kept my diet/exercise routine the game which helped me drop another 20 lbs. That being said, at 6'2" 175lbs and 8% body fat, I was very, very lean and probably too lean. So I've focused on adding some weight back on, but trying to stay lean as well.

6'2" 188 lbs here. Was 205 at the start of quarantine. Went from a 34x34 jean to a 32x34 jeans and all of my large shirts fit much losser than before. Medium tall is now the best fit for my long arms. However I don't have a ton of upper body muscle mass.

I don't want to derail, but what gym is this? All that seems bad, covid or not.

Anytime Fitness in a smaller town outside of Des Moines. I don't want to be too harsh on them. The whole point of Anytime Fitness is that there's next to no staff, which keep the membership cost low and I actually like that because I don't need the staff, just the equipment. And there are signs up that remind people to distance themselves.

But, from what I can tell, no one really does anything other than what they've always done. People will wipe down a machine when they're done most of the time, but not all. I'm sure the manager "cleans" the gym once a day, but I have yet to see it happen. Unfortunately, in this scenario, I'm not sure what they could realistically do. You're not going to require people to wear a masking when doing cardio and sanitizing surfaces may or may not be preventative, anyway. At best, they could limit the number of people in the gym at one time and come up with a scheduling system. Even in that case, you'd be sharing air with some number of people in a relatively small facility. I'd guess this gym is maybe 5,000 SF.

I thought about starting to go at like 5am, but ultimately just decided to take a little break around the holidays and return when things are a bit better. Regardless of ones position on the effectiveness of masks, when I stepped back to look at what I was doing, I realized I was going to a facility and sharing air with 10-12 people outside my home every single day and those people were ok not really taking any extra COVID precautions at the gym, which probably meant they weren't taking precautions other places, either. When viewed in that lens, it seemed like a very, very risky proposition. So, I decided to stay away for a bit.

I would just hope that a gym encourages everyone to wipe down their equipment whether there is a pandemic or not. I'm not trying to touch other people's nasty sweat.

I've put on a few COVID lbs and have decided to train for a marathon over the winter. I was running yesterday in 24 degree weather and my bird was freezing. I run in sweat pants and boxers. Are there any reasonably priced products or suggestions to help my my little dude to not be so cold? Especially on longer runs.

I've been wearing these for walks under jeans and under shorts and they work fine for me. Found them at Costco for super cheap.

Doesn't running in boxers cause you chaffing problems?
