Before I fit this piece of pizza in my mouth it's time to wrap up 2020

Gym:
-162 hrs 46 minutes of workout time

Walking
-114.2 miles (as a workout)

Running
-36.6 miles

95,541 calories burned during anything I called a "workout"

Pass the garlic knots and Happy New Year
Are you in shape or "still working on it"?

Was kind feeling the winter doldrums coming in so went for a walk today in the snow...good reminder what that can do for the mood.

Bonus was the snow gave a different work out on the legs which was great.

Think I'll always be working on it.

Within 5 lbs of my high school weight, but mostly I'm able to hang with the toddler and walk up stairs without needing to take a knee

Those were my goals going into the year. Everything else is bonus.
I was doing really good - back to a 33 waist and my chesticles were back (I'm 57...)

But then I suffered a stress fracture in my shin. Big setback. Then Covid hit.

I am now starting all over again. As you age, you make progress slowly and lose it overnight. :(

Feel ya. Had a plantar plate tear. Don't recommend it.

Had to pivot to more weight lifting which I'm cool with

Counted 310 workouts/run/walks in 2020. With COVID ending (hopefully) my hour and a half commute will fire back up and baby #2 is on the way.

Hoping to work on flexibility more and to hold serve on the weight. Dial in the diet more since time will be an issue

Congrats on the progress! Older fellas can put on muscle. Fight father time until the end!

Yep, dudes can continue to gain muscle and strength for a long time - as long as their other habits allow (get enough protein, sleep, water).

My progress had really slowed the past two months between birthday, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Went from 256 at the beginning of the month to 253 this morning. Though my weight is still creeping down, my fasting blood sugars had been creeping up.The past few days I've recommitted to making this work and the blood sugar has already come back below 100 (normal range). Hopefully the weightloss will pick up again too. I have buckled down on the eating habits, and have been slowly removing all the barriers to getting back to exercising. With the arrival of some gear from Amazon this week I'll be ready to start crushing it in the garage gym.

I haven't been under 250 since probably my freshman year of high school. As a sophomore I was about 270 at the beginning of wrestling season, and 255 at the end of it. Got back up to about 275 by senior year. Was 196 at weigh-ins for 8th grade football. Thats the lowest I ever remember weighing.

My goal is basically high school senior weight which right now is only 7-8 lbs but I honestly have felt my body composition change with my sitting more this year.

Need to do more yoga and force myself to bundle up to walk/run in January.

Trout season opens here this weekend so that will provide lots of opportunities to get a good hike in.

I'm not sure I even weighed 100 when I was in 8th grade.

Can confirm. When you stop working out at my age (stopped going to gym and no weight workouts since March) your muscle mass and tone do seem to just melt away like snow on a warm spring day. Happens WAY faster now that I am 69.

Doesn't look like I am going to get back to LifeTime till summer. I am not imagining getting a vaccine till at least June or so. Think I am going to end up at home alone for probably going on 18 months. Feels like i committed a crime and doing time but without the prison yard weights! Anyway have been doing daily walkabouts and getting 21-25 miles of walking in each week. It's a poor substitute for all of the biking I did till October but it's what I got. Been tough sledding here with all of the snow though as the slog through the woods is not great footing. Do have some small hand bells and need to do some light toning at least. Volleyball coach from ISU posted some good light home workouts for core and upper that don't require a ton of weights and equipment. Not sure his target audience but seemed suitable for old man me. He's his upper:

I'll be your age when kid 1 gets out of high school.

Set me a good example!

Broke down and did 2 sets on the Bowflex for the first time in 8 or 9 years. Used minimal resistance because I'm not as young as I used to be and for how long it has been. Gonna be sore tomorrow.
Now I just have to motivate myself to do it again Monday. Then back to 3 sets and increasing the resistance.

I think one thing I'd like to do once the vaccine gets rolling is get back into a gym and lift. Pushups and weighted dry bag lifting is OK, but sets of something like bench simply take less time and that's maybe a benefit/advantage of the bowflex to use for motivation.

Just ran 5 miles and it felt pretty good, which is weird because I've gotten a bit chunky over the last 3 weeks.

Slim down a bit and that might turn into an even easier deal.

It's a really good machine. Once you get a pattern you can switch quickly between exercises. The one thing is don't think of the numbers as weight. Think units of resistance because as weights I don't think it is accurate.

Just find something - anything - you can be consistent with. You don't have to move mountains from day one. Do a little bit each day and over the course of a year you'll be shocked at the progress you've made. 10,000 foot mountains are made by growing 0.001" a day, every day, for a long time. Take the same approach.

That's why I only did 2 sets at a low resistance. Don't need to overdo it when I haven't worked out in so long. Just need to keep doing it now that I started and get back to a decent workout
