It's not hard to hit 4 home runs in one game by one player, however the opportunity seldom presents itself. Power hitters tend to get walked more and the quality of pitches they see is not good. I think this is why it has happened so few times. If pitchers would just fall in line and pitch over the plate all the time and not walk anyone we would see more 4 HR games.

If defensive players would just fall in line and not tackle anyone, we would see more 12 touchdown games.

But not impossible. 28 K's are even possible in a nine inning game.

The odds of someone getting on base after a strikeout in an otherwise 27 strikeout game are even more unlikely. Both are rare. I doubt if any have happened in the 20 strikeout games.

An infinite number of strikeouts are theoretically possible.

Assuming the baseball would never deteriorate until it is unpitchable, and if it was, assuming all of the balls manufactured in the world would never run out. Of course this is all assuming the pitcher's arm would never wear out. Let alone the fact that if a pitcher pitched too long, they would run into the game time of their next game :twitcy:

I don't think anyone has mentioned Fernando Tatis hitting 2 grand slams in the same inning. I don't think that's been done before since.

Tatis is the only one.

With "hitting for the cycle" on the list there are 230+ instances, but if you specify hitting for a "natural cycle" that has only happened 13 times.

I would have said an unassisted triple play would be the hardest thing to do in baseball....until I saw this.

6 Year-Old Turns Unassisted Triple Play - SportsPickle Video

That's nothing. I had a kid pull off an unassisted quadruple play in t-ball. Bases loaded (obv.), no outs (natch). Batter pops one up. Everybody takes off. At that age, any ball hit fair was a guaranteed base hit.

When, wonder of wonders, my shortstop snow-cones it. He runs to third, then runs the bases backwards, tagging runners as they run right to him, unaware of the danger.

I never said a word to the kid. He knew what to do, but evidently thought "3" came after "4."

I wanted to ask the other coach if that 4th out carried over to their next at bat.

The reality here is that many of the options rely on circumstance. Pitching a perfect game and hitting 4 home runs rely on the individual and should be considered fairly equal. They are both extraordinary performances. I believe striking out 20 has only happened 5 times, so that seems to be the hardest to do.

I'm sure it's been said a bunch of times already, but it has to be 4 HRs. You are at the mercy of the pitcher and they could choose to intentionally walk you.
