Before Gus Johnson Signed with FOX, he was my favorite Play-by-play announcerfor march madness on CBS and NFL games. Unfortunately he left CBS before Iowa State could make the big dance so I never got to see a game where he commentated one of our basketball games so when I heard he will be doing the IA vs ISU game I got excited. People think he's either annoying or fun to hear lol. What are your guy's thoughts on him? I personally think he's more fun to watch when he did basketball than football but i'd much rather hear Gus than Gary Dolphin lol. Do you think the play-by-play announcers make the game more fun to watch or do you not care?

I think Gus actually enjoys the games. I can see why people would get annoyed but I can empathize. I get that into the games as well. Just sucks me in and I get excited. Seems like ol' Gus suffers from the same thing. I go either way though. Not a huge Musberger fan.

I tend to think most Fox or FSN commentators overemphasize pretty standard situations, so not a huge fan.

Don't mind Mussberger too much for some reason even though he's similar...I suppose it feels more justified since he usually does big/meaningful national games where each play can feel important.

There are some people (maybe a lot) who just like to complain no matter what. The weather could be beautiful & they would find something to complain about it (too dry, too wet, too cold, too hot, too humid, too windy, etc). If you enjoy Gus Johnson, enjoy him. Who cares what some others like "Debbie Downers" think? Jesus ****** himself could announce the game & they would find something to complain about. Instead of complaining, try complimenting. Be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem.

He's ok in small doses, like a highlight clip of a great play, the clip where Brandon Stokely catches the tipped ball and Johnson poops his pants with excitement is fun to watch. Not so much a fan of watching an entire game's worth of it though.

Who did the K-State game last year for FSN? That guy was freaking out. His stupid voice is burned into my brain from that Lazard flee flicker highlight on .tv .

Semantics but he's the play-by-play announcer, not the "commentator". Who is the color guy for Saturday?

Gus is tooooo over the top for my tastes. Don't mind him but it just seems forced. Maybe that is his actual level of excitement which is ok.....I'm just not buying it.

Dickie V sounds like a blabbering maniac when excited, but listen to an interview where he's just talking basketball and he's solid in my book.

I would say for the most part Gus is fine. I do start to have a problem with him when he falls into his usual rut of saying a players last name multiple times, with nothing else added, to call big plays. For example we might hear this on Sat: "Lazard, Lazard, Lazard, LAZARD!" That would be how he would call a 40-50 yard catch and run. That kind of stuff can get annoying.

One of my favorite announcing teams - Gus Johnson and Joel Klattt. Love Johnsons excitement and Klatt is well spoken and knowledgeable.

Haha that's my favorite part about him!
Except, its more like this:
"Lazard. Juke. Lazard. Sideline. Lazard! Spin! LAZARD! THE 20! LAZARD!!!! TOUCHDOWN!!!"
