Texas Tech isnt that good. They just think they are good and that's all that matters early in the year. They also played their only tough game at home against TCU. And the officiating was questionable at best in that game.

Yeah and the fact that TCU couldn't get a first down means nothing. Tech's defense won that game, was very similar to the OU/TCU game.

cycloneG to answer your question, nobody really knows. We learned this morning that Mayfield's injury is not serious, so it just adds more confusion. The assumption is they want Brewer eased into the starting role in the next couple of weeks. We really need an experienced quarterback right now, although Mayfield and Webb are getting better and better each week.

"Tech has played no one" "They're overrated" "we're the best team they will have faced up to this point"

Are we really going to do this again this year? Look, I respect Rhoads and the way his teams play hard, but Texas Tech is a legitimately good team this year.

Even though we've been rotating true freshman QB's Tech is a top 15 offense and our defense is much better than last years.

If your QB is healthy I expect him to have some success scrambling, and your big RB will have some success, but I think overall y'all are going to see a different level of Tech defense that you've never seen before.
I think Tech is decent (8-9 win team, maybe 10 with a bowl). I am not expecting ISU to get a win here but I wouldn't classify them as a top 20 team. I think Tech's defense is pretty good and their offensive system is good, but I don't think the offense itself is that good. I think a seasoned defense will cause that offense a lot of problems but I do feel in time KK will have a very good offense in years to come.
Oh, and Jace is a beast. A true man amongst boys.

The Iowa thing totally came out of left field, I'm still not sure what to make of it. We haven't played Iowa in over a decade and the two programs are about as different as they come. Pretty bad place to make a comparison.

There are a lot of posters who grew up outnumbered, outgunned and surrounded by mercilessly classless Squawk fans (present company included) so you'll have to forgive some of us if we are obsessed.

I agree it is a stupid comparison that should have not even been a one off and to make matters worse, it grew legs.

A few stats to chew on compiled on another site, bolded the bad ones:

... Texas Tech ranks No. 117 nationally -- with the likes of Kansas, La. Tech, FIU and Idaho -- and last in the Big 12 in tackles for loss allowed. The team has been stopped behind the line 40 times already in five games. That's a lot of negative plays, especially when you couple that stat with the 45 penalties the team has been flagged for so far this season -- good for No. 118 nationally.

... Jace Amaro has caught 16 passes on third down. He's averaging 16.6 yards per third-down catch, and all 16 of those receptions have gone for first downs. No other player in the Big 12 has more than nine third-down catches.

... The Red Raiders have logged 41 TFL through five games -- they had 66 all of last season -- which is good for No. 10 nationally and is third in the Big 12 behind Baylor and TCU.

... Texas Tech has attempted 32 rushes on third downs and picked up the first just 11 times. The team is most effective in third and short situations, attempting 11 rushing attempts and and picking up the first down seven times.

... The Red Raiders rank second in the Big 12 in explosive plays of 10 or more yards (103).

... Matt Wallerstedt's defense ranks third behind Oklahoma (9.8) and Baylor (10) in the Big 12 in fewest explosive plays given up per game (11.4).

... The defense ranks No. 12 nationally and second in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma in third-down defense (28.2).

... Texas Tech's opponents have run the ball 14 times in third and short situations and picked up a first down just six times. Even more impressive, the the team's run defense has given up just one net yard and one first down on five fourth-down attempts this season.

... Texas Tech does not have a single player that ranks in the top 25 among Big 12 players in rushing yards per game.

... Jace Amaro leads the Big 12 in receptions (38) and receptions per game (7.6). He leads, by far, all tight ends nationally in receptions and yards.

So we only got 189 yards vs. Tech last year. I had conveniently forgotten that. Ugh.

Young and inexperienced. Hard to get a read so far.

I just looked at TTech's depth chart and it has Brewer ahead of Webb. Is Brewer starting?

KK has been trying to mess with the opposing coaching staff with the depth chart all year. Everyone thought Mayfield would start vs SMU but he made a point not to announce it before the game. It was announced today Mayfield not out for the season. But KK said no decision had been made on who will start. I bet he will wait till game time. If Mayfield can't go. I would think Webb but he might play Brewer if he looks good in practice.

Hope that was helpful.

Thank you it was helpful.

I have to give credit where credit is due and Iowa is going to win 3-4 more games, compared to last season they are a good team. As for matching up to TTU's speed, am I the only one who watched them almost lose to Minnesota in their bowl game, where is this speed?

I just have to... I watched Tech beat Minnesota in the bowl game. I remember watching Jakeem Grant have a 99 kick return TD. Yup found it on youtube. That wasn't speed then?

Because Jantz was too busy dropping the ball and throwing picks. ISU played bad and still had a shot to win that game until Steel just dropped the ball. Ugh...

I agree, your offense has looked better this year. I wouldn't use Texas as a measuring stick though, as they are making a strong push for dead last in the country if they keep playing like they are.

They have improved a lot under Robinson.

A Manny Diaz coached defense would have given up tons of yards to teams like us and K State (running quarterbacks), they are definitely playing better assignment football under Robinson

What is your drug of choice? Because you are the only one in the country (besides color blinded sqwak fans) who thinks Iowa is worth a duck fart. And now you claim UT is better with Robinson? LOL.

They have been against the run, that's not even debatable.
