How bout those Cards? 11/13 first place in the wildcard. Look out Cubbies. They stuck with Matheny a few years too long. I love seeing all the young kids finally get their chance.
Is this this year's version of "The birds. They're coming"?

Let's see. In the "General 2018 mlb thread? I'm going to go out on a limb and say yes.

I was speaking about the Rockies in general - but I think that got overlooked. No one even cares about them here.

In this case, as we sit today, the answer appears to be "yes." They may not catch the Cubs, but they went from looking forward to 2019 to being in the thick of the playoff race.

In the last 30 games:
STL: 21-9
CHC: 15-15
MIL: 15-15
LAD: 13-17
COL: 18-12
They are only 2.5 back, but that is a bit deceiving; they are 4 games behind in the Loss column.

Looks like Aroldis Chapman is headed for the DL now. Been a really awful run of bad luck on in play field injuries. Good thing they had a good record run the first 1/3 of the season because they are fielding a .500 or so squad right now without Judge, Sanchez and Didi. Chapman just makes it a little worse but at least they have other guys who can close. All of the injury focus earlier was losing Montgomery and needing a replacement(s) but the issue right now is scoring runs w/o 1/3 of the main bats.

BTW, I'll be surprised to see Judge even back this season.

Last night after the win, they said the Cards have won 8 straight series. I thought it was interesting that during that stretch, they've played all of the teams you listed. I also think they still play them each again down the stretch. Should be fun but they definitely have their work cut out for them.

Matt Holliday is back with the Rockies and just hit a pinch hit solo bomb to give Rockies the lead over his old club Cardinals.

i'd be down for a Yankees-Cardinals or Yankees-Rockies world series.

I'd totally dig another Yankee-Cardinal series as long as Bob Gibson isn't pitching the 7th game again. Almost to the point of being over that game. At least Mantle homered.
