Way up there
I think you miss the point of some of the backlash. I think people understand it is fictional, duh. My issue is that I watch the show to be entertained. Personally, I don't find vicious stabbing of a pregnant woman, burning/screaming of young child, or repeated rape scenes to be entertaining. Maybe others do.

If they were necessary to the story, maybe it is fine. But a number of people find some of these scenes as gratuitous violence just for the sake of shock value. There is a line between being edgy and being over the top. There are a number of ways Shireen could have been sacrificed without the screaming of a young child burned alive. The Harpy were burned alive, and that was fine (and fictional). Not sure why is not OK to respect the opinions of some people that feel the show could be just as successful without some gratuitous violence and misogyny.

And lol, I have read a number of people defending some of these scenes with the response, "well, that is how women were treated back then". Uh, fictional.

If you're offended, then why watch? The very first episode of the series ends with an attempted murder of a child. Joffery had a baby murdered in a brothel in season 2. If violence offends someone, how did they make it this far in the series? Why are they watching something that offends them? Or is it just now offensive because its popular. I'm guessing the outrage is mostly coming from people who dont' watch the show but read about or watched a clip of that ONE specific scene and judged the series on that. After the Sansa rape scene you had people in the media bashing the show, when by the things they were saying, you could tell had never watched the show, read the books or gave two ***** about GoT until that scene.

The funny thing is you never hear outrage over Kahl Drogo and Dany "consummating" their marriage back in season 1 - and they showed a lot more of that "rape" than they did for what Ramsay did to Sansa. Other than the lead-up, ripping of the dress, Theon's reaction, and noises, they let the audience's imagination run with it. So in fact, perhaps those whining about the rape should be condemning themselves for coming up with those offensive images in their own heads themselves.

But that is what the show is. GRRM suggested to burning of shareen to the show creators. You miss the point of that scene. It was supposed to be a kick in the gut. In fact they went out of their way to make it sting more. Maybe GRRM writings and this show just are not for you. Don't fret though, full house is coming back to tv. Fun for the whole family.

The people who are offended are ridiculous and get offended over anything. It's a freaking TV show based on the rose wars, what do you expect?

I got a lot of bored time at work so I've been listening to a lot of GOT podcasts and the lady on the Cast of Kings podcast has been particularly insufferable.

Hey - I appreciate Game of Thrones for what it is AND I'm looking forward to Fuller House. It's not like it's an either/or thing. In fact, I DVR Girl Meets World so my wife and I can watch them together.

My wife and I tried. Couldn't do it. Maybe in a few years when the girls are older

I like this whether it's serious or sarcastic...but we still need a jimlad or no jimlad clarification on claims of being a Fuller House enthusiast.

I hate it when people say "that's how women were treated back then." My response is usually, "Really, tell me about how life was back when there were dragons and white walkers. I'd really like to know."

in the movie Cable Guy where the Medieval Times waitress tells them they didn't use utensils in medieval times and Mathew Broderick says "but they had Pepsi?"

For those who are still mad at Stannis, maybe you should be mad at yourself for not expecting it.

Well played.

I will say this - just because we should have been expecting this doesn't mean we have to be happy about it. It just goes along with what Ramsay Bolton said a few weeks back: "If you think this has a happy ending you haven't been paying attention."

Once we get past all of this violence we can get back to more gratuitous nudity that will give people something different to complain about.

Ayra will return to whorehouse (knowing Trant is coming back looking for the youngsters). She volunteers to be his girl because of the money (to pay her way through college obviously). She gives him a boner-inducing oyster with a touch of vanilla poison and in the minute before Trant dies she reveals who she is and watches him go sleepy. Of course, Jaqen knows all and will not be happy. Arya gets punished in some form or fashion. Scene fades to black...roll credits...season over. I doubt the Thin Man gets killed.

There is NO WAY Arya is victim to a rape scene. <-----Bet yo house on that one.

I think it's hilarious that people are mad about particular storylines. The show is based on a book, and although they are getting away from the book a tad, they aren't going to get away from some of the big moments. Read the book, then you aren't surprised and still enjoy the show. Except the Sansa rape, that was new I guess.

Even the whores in the brothel last week kept their clothes on. :)

Anyone think Arya wears a face?
It wouldn't surprise me to see her in face form and remove it right as he dies. I hope anyway.

That would be a surprise and I've dig seeing it happen. But I wonder if she'll get in trouble since she's not following her original hit of the Skinny Man. Jakin Hagar isn't going to look kindly on this.

But we shall see...
