Yeah I am not buying anything electric anytime soon until they make them just as good as the gas powered machine they would replace. The only yard equipment I own that is electric is my cordless trimmer/weed eater and it's not like that needs a ton of power to do its job.

I've always had a good sized 2 stage snow blower because I've lived on a corner lot at both of my homes so I am not messing around when I have to clear that much sidewalk. Even my gas powered snow blower you have to take it a little slower going through the wet heavy snow like we had earlier this week but the stuff we are getting now is going to be dry and fluffy but probably drift some with the wind and it will cut through that like butter. Not surprised the electric one struggled, even the larger 2 stage gas snow blowers will plug up with really wet snow if you try to go through it too fast.

It was exactly that - too heavy and wet! That is super helpful to know about the two stage. Thank you! And good luck today…

Sounds lame but during snow days we try and wash bed sheets and sort out clothes for Goodwill donations.

I did that with the kids when Janny was at the bowl game in Memphis!

Do you mean besides hanging out on CF?

Since the mean weather hit, people at the Pourcyne Winter Estates have watched all three "Equalizer" movies with Denzel Washington. Might pop for streaming the new one on Prime in February (if it's not exclusively on the big screen). As we can see in the trailer below, the fourthbie will have Chloe and Ashton back, with added bonuses of John Wick and Al Swearingen...

Therefore, organizing as we speak a "Streaming Denzel Retrospect" film festival marathon for the next two days.

In the meantime,

The Waiting is the Hardest Part.

Best I remember as a kid was one ice storm our slightly older neighbor would pull us down the gravel road on sleds with him on his Sting Ray Schwinn. So you know it was pretty icey if you can pull a sled on a gravel road.

As an adult on a snow day (or sick day) I might take a deep dive into an artist or subgenre of my vinyl collection. Something I wouldn't normally take the time to do otherwise, with daily and weekly routine.

As a kid - depends how bad the weather was. We would either be outside playing or inside preparing in case the electricity went off. We lived on a farm in the country and it didn't take much for that to happen. (Generator was mainly used for the barn & livestock) I remember one time my Dad drove the snowmobile to take a neighbor home (got stuck in the drift near our house) and he used it to get to my grandparent's farm 3 miles down the road.

As an adult: After last year's #3 winter snowfall, it's usually spent looking outside and commenting "F***in snow", clearing the driveway and counting down to when we move south.

I'd like to do that if I didn't have to work today. I'm usually in the office 5 days a week due to my job role but I do have remote access to work from home when needed like today so I don't have to use a PTO day. I did get a ton of purging and organizing done in my basement storage over the winter break and am ready to start hitting other areas of the house this winte. My wife however does not share the same motivation that I do to address the excess stuff we have accumulated that needs to be dealt with so she finds my organizing binges annoying as it forces her to deal with stuff I can't do something without her making a decision on. She says "just throw it all out" but I know better because if I took her for her word on that as soon as she sees something she'll probably say "don't get rid of that!"

I go to work, then drive home. Snow days are just another day for me. I have a pickup truck, so it is very fun driving in it.

As kids we would go out all day and build snowforts. Mostly dig tunnels in the drifted-over deep ditch (lived right on the edge of town). Some of those got REALLY long and had some big "rooms" in them. Sledding too.

Now though... just plowing and blowing and shovelling snow... which I don't mind if I can do it just once. But this has been multiple days and multiple times per day.

"Ten inches in the (driveway) is not a pleasant feeling"

As a kid we would pull each other around on a sled behind a 4 wheeler/ranger/truck all the way through college. Haven’t done that in years but I still do a few donuts in my truck the first time it gets slick every winter. I’m still 16 at heart I guess.

As a kid I'd the typical things: go sledding, build snow forts, build a ramp & jump off the deck, etc.

As an adult: I said to hell with winter and moved south to the coast. It's gonna get close to 70 today but I still shiver when scrolling my social media feeds.

I'll be heading out to snowblow the drive a 2nd time in just a bit, other than that its day drinking and letting the kids play in the house. If the wind isnt too bad we take them out to get out of the house for just a bit.

anyone else ever steal trays from food service and go sledding down the snow piles over by Fischer and Scheman? We did that a few times living at M-W-L...

One guy jumped off the skywalk onto a pile and slid down it, wasn't much of a jump because the piles were so high.

We did that down the hill by The Knoll.

What are your favorite snow day activities? Do you go out and brave the elements to snowshoe or build a snowman? Do you cuddle in front of the fire?

Our children went out and built a miniature snowman on Monday, and both made themselves an entire activity list. Snow angels, hot chocolate, building a fort. They each checked them all off!
I already know the replies I will get but I actually enjoy clearing snow. Doing it when it's this cold and windy is not fun. But when it's warm enough that it's no longer dangerous, I enjoy taking the time to clear the driveway/sidewalks. Especially if it's dark, I enjoy the serene and calm that comes after a snow.

I did a partial clearing this morning to make my life easier tomorrow and I paused to just watch the snow fall for a bit.
