First hand-me-down family car I drove right after I got my license: 1966 Ford Galaxie 500. Similar to this color.

Except the hubcaps were more like this:

I'll post the first car that was "mine" in a minute.

The reason the hubcaps are different is because the picture you posted is of a '65 Ford. And the wheel covers on it are actually correct for a '65. The wheel covers you show separately ARE for a '66. There are some subtle differences, the biggest one being the '66 has a bit of a hump on the sides behind the back doors and the '65's are straight back. And the grill is different and the tail lights.

I had a '65 hardtop with a 390 4 Barrel and it was fast. Also our family car was a 65, silver blue. First new car my Dad ever bought

A suburb of Ames
1972 Ford LTD Brougham, 429 4-barrel, got about 3.2 mpg, 18 feet long. The thing was a monster. I jacked up the rear end and put white letter tires on it. Had saved up enough $ to buy it myself. Power everything (which was rare back in the day) and the back seat was as big as a motel room. My friends had Road Runners, GTOs and Chargers. Wish I still had that beast... 1972-ford-ltd-brougham-2d.jpg

I suppose mine was a crappy version of this sweet AMC Concord. The gas gauge didn't work and the whole dash would shake uncontrollably from about 55-62MPH and then smoothed out nicely.

First car that was "mine" (although also was a hand-me-down from my sister). 1977 Pontiac Phoenix.

I thought the half-vinyl roof was sooo cool. :) ... My friend called it "The Power Wagon." ... Drove that car until it conked.

HA! I paid my cousin a couple hundred bucks for his 77 Pontiac Ventura, which looked similar to that one. (This would have been ~2002).

Another good thing about those old Chargers was in the winter you could pop the hood drop in a case of warm beer go 10-15 miles and have icy cold beers the rest of the night.

Thanks to everyone for posting about their cars extra props to those with pics. This was a really fun thread.

To drlove my sisters friend had a old AMC pacer we called it the goldfish bowl. Gremlins were kind of cool in their own way though.

My first official car was a 1980 Toyota Tercel in red (it was really orange). I got the car probably in 1995 or so. I didn't pay for it and I don't think my parents really did either. My aunt bought it new when she was out of college and then sold it to my other aunt and uncle and my cousin drove it while he was in college in the late 80's/early 90's. The body was pretty rusted out but it ran really well. It was a 4 speed manual transmission with no air conditioning.

In college (1998) I "bought" (at far less than actual value) a 1990 Ford Tempo from my parents. From about 1997-2001, I bet 40% of the cars that students had at Iowa State were early 90's Tempos. Everyone had one of those. One of the unique things about those cars was that the shoulder belt in the front seats were automated. You know, to save time.

Bought this with a couple years worth of detasseling money when I was 15. Worked on it and kept it in my grandparents garage until I turned 16. Yes, that's my senior picture, and yes it's intentionally cropped to hide my mullet.

Just think of all the people who just gave you the answer to one of their security questions. Please use any funds you are about to steal to send Chris Williams on vacations at opportune times. :)

1977 Pontiac Formula (with massive hail damage discount). I paid for it at 16 and owned through college until the dents and other unnamed incidents caught up with it.

Ah, good catch. I Googled "66 Galaxie 500" and that was the closest thing I could find. I thought there were some slight differences, didn't look exactly how I remembered. Thanks!

A guy in my hometown has a 1972 LTD convertible. Gorgeous car. In that same model year, two others I wish Ford had done convertibles for were the Mercury Marquis and the Lincoln Mark IV. I've wanted a '72 Mark IV for a long time, but my wife says no way. However, she says if the Mark IV came in a convertible, I could have one...

Turn that baby in to a project get the Mark IV, then customize it into the convertible everybody wins.

This gorgeous 1959 Rambler Classic Wagon was inherited from my parents on my 16th birthday. Butt ugly is an understatement.

Man, if I had been smart over the years, I would have thought to notice this stuff. :D I promise I will use my ill-gotten monies for the good of Cyclone Nation!
