Yes, yes, I know it isn't Friday yet. Posting this Thursday night, due to my work schedule.

Testing a possible offseason feature: 1-5 ranking in a variety of topics. If it gains momentum, I'll try to continue semi-weekly throughout summer.

This week: Rank your top 5 NBA team nicknames (current franchises only).

I'll post mine shortly.

1. Hornets
2. Celtics
3. Timberwolves
4. Raptors
5. Thunder

I know some might think the Timberwolves is a little generic but I think it's a bad *** name. BTW, New Orleans went from the best to worst in giving Charlotte back the Hornets. Seriously, the Pelicans?

1. Clippers
2. Suns
3. Cavs (LeBron may have switched teams a couple times but he is a good person, and I respect that)
4. Timberwolves?
5. Anyone but the Warriors or Lakers

BTW I really like this idea it's kind of fun.

2. Spurs
3. Supersonics (not following your rules)
4. Pelicans
5. Bulls (generic but it's my team and my list)

Pistons and Knicks are cool nicknames but f those teams.

If I hadn't set up the rule, I might've included the Supersonics, too. Preferable to shortened "Sonics."

A few that just missed my cut: Pistons, Spurs, Timberwolves, Grizzlies, Heat.

I don't like Pistons & Spurs as much as the nicknames in my top 5, but I like the "object mascot" aspect specific to the regional identity of those teams (Pistons were initially in Fort Wayne).

I feel like the nicknames of NBA team reflect their location more than any other pro sport.

Yup, and the ones that don't originated elsewhere.

Clippers were from SD where Clipper ships sailed
Lakers were from Minnesota
Grizzlies were from Vancouver

Thanks for responses & feedback so far.

A final thought regarding my concept: I don't intend to detract from the Angie-fueled CF-classic "Friday OT," or risk redundancy in that regard. This could be adapted to "Saturday 7" or "Sunday 6," if necessary.

("Tuesday 2" is a bit limiting)

We'll see how it goes.

I like the idea 500. Kind of like soundoff's whose in your five. I think it's something you do all year and some weeks maybe there will be something in the news could be made a topic.
