The five that come to mind for me in no particular order:

Almost Famous
High Fidelity
History of the Eagles
Mr. Holland's Opus (thanks @cyhiphopp for reminding me. The final scene always gets me)
Don't Look Back

Oooh, High Fidelity! Love that movie. I'm a pretty big Cusak fan in general but that one is great in particular. Great monologues from him.
Jack Black almost steals the show with his side kick role.

Just enough music to make it a music related movie as well.

The only thing in that movie that didn't do it for me was the girlfriend role. Total casting misfire.

But any time I hear Walking on Sunshine I immediately think of Jack Black spinning around that crappy little record store trying to pump his friends up.

I can kind of see what you mean about the girlfriend, but I can't think of what type of girl would be better for the part, or a specific actress who would have been better.

Tim Robbins was pretty spot on for Ian Raymond though.

I don't see a lot of them, and too many are disappointing in some respect, but a few I've enjoyed over the years and recently:
King Creole
Hard Day's Night
Blues Brothers
Spinal Tap
Concert for George
Love and Mercy (about the making of Pet Sounds)

Love and Mercy is another on my list-to-see. Almost forgot that one.

Very surprised that Bohemian Rhapsody did not make anyone's list. Based on how successful and good it was. And how recent it is.

I haven't seen it yet. I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but I'm too cheap to go to the theater for much. Most of what I see in theaters are movies with the kids or super hero movies that are made for the big screen.

What in baby Jesus' name is Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter?

That also made me think of Jesus Christ Superstar, which while not one of my all time favorite music related movies, is quite good.

I'm not qualified to assess JC Superstar for its historic/thematic content, but it has quite a fewl good songs.

I was raised Catholic and we watched JC Superstar during Religious Education in prep for my Confirmation. Our RE teacher was really cool. Those classes were probably my best religious related memories.

I am not religious anymore, but the movie was pretty cool. The music and the production was very interesting.
