This is something you should probably be asking the older members of your house as there is probably a large difference between houses.

I was in a fraternity during my time at ISU and met some great people in my house and around the greek community. A lot of people on here will probably trash on the greek community and that's their perogative, it's not for everyone. Per your question - expect a good time commitment as far as pledge duties. However, it's not so much that you can't handle your academic responsibilities.

I'm currently in SAE. Message me if you have any questions. Many people here have predetermined fealings about fraternities so it's not a very good source.

Everybody in this discussion has bias. Frat reps make them sound better than they are and non-Greeks make them worse than they are.

I once saw a certain star football player spraying champagne on everybody during a VEISHEA 2008 party at SAE so obviously frats aren't all bad.

This is true. But I would still take the opinion of someone who has been in a Fraternity over someone who has not.

I'm pretty sure SAE was one of the teams I reffed in intramurals and you guys were a bunch of complete douchebags. Greeks are BY FAR the worst people to referee.

Oh I wasn't complaining. That was the biggest collection of attractive girls I've been apart of at ISU (7 girls). Freshman girls flock to those places I guess.

Hey, guys let's leave the attacks at the door, ok? The OP said he's already joined a frat, and is looking for info on what he can expect. Let's not make this a debate on the merits of the greek system.

Thanks.
