What would you suggest liftingwise for increased flexibility in the shoulders area? My shoulders are frozen to the point I can't get my my hands above my head, and can no longer swing a golf club without some pretty good pain. I can't even grip the bar with both hands to do a lat pull down.
That would depend on what caused the problem.
I've been told, by doctors, etc, that I would be crippled for life, at 4 different times in my life. Each time, I either exercised the affected area into usefulness, or ignored that area and learned to compensate.
A wrapup: Age 5 - strapped to a bed for 6 months in order to combat Kidney Disorder - feet grew "turned out" Doc said "you'll be lucky to ever walk, you'll never run.
Age 13 - had left leg partially removed in accident - reattached
Age 17 - Broke back while working horses - Vertebrate impinges directly on Sciatic nerve
Age 34 - Head on car accident at near highway speeds - closed head injury resulting in chronic vertigo, and near complete loss of the use and control of the left leg.
Where there is a will, there is a way. Of course, if you're in Stephen Hawking's condition, you do the best you can without your body; otherwise, you ruck up and drive on. Or just give up.
Last Saturday, my semi-functional left leg collapsed on me during a 10K in the mountains. I sprained my ankle and slid downhill, face first. My response? I knew I had a good 3 or 4 miles in me before my ankle was non-useable, so I ran that much more before returning to my house. (And a large amount of good German beer and ice) By Monday, the swelling was down enough to do 55 minutes on the elliptical, and I did 60 today, in addition to my weight workout. I plan on running that same route Saturday and completing it, dammit.
One thing I noticed; the more I exercize my muscles, at age 40 and beyond, the more testosterone I appear to have. I took a few years off from weights after the car accident, and my voice became higher and my body shape changed significantly (duh!) Since going back on weights, my voice has dropped from a Tenor II to a Baritone I, and I am noticing other indications of increased testosterone (none of yer bidness!)
