My list from the last time:
http://cyclonefanatic.com/forum/off-topic/174119-best-favorite-iowa-beer.html#post3545963

I'll stick with my pick. Psuedo Sue is far and away the leading beer coming out of the state in terms of universal nationwide praise, and that's not a slam on any other beers - Psuedo Sue is considered by many to be one of the best beers in America right now. I beer trade with guys in California, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut, and they prefer it to Pliny in overall quality. Their words, not mine. It also has an overwhelmingly positive response on Beer Advocate:
PseudoSue | Toppling Goliath Brewing Company | Decorah, IA | BeerAdvocate

Confluence is very consistent, and they put out a nice, wide variety of good beers. There isn't a single beer that just blows me away there, but they are universally well above average for their style.

515 is up to some wild stuff. I've only had them once, but really liked it.

Those are my Top 3 breweries in the state, in order. Does Peace Tree still make Hop Sutra? That's a great DIPA.

Great River gets lost in the shuffle sometimes, but it's a quality brewery that does some damn interesting beer. I also really enjoy Singlespeed in Cedar Falls, and Big Grove in Solon is getting a lot of buzz.

Top 3 in no order are...

Exile Hannah(Hefe)
Confluence Milk Man Milk Stout
Peace Tree Red Rambler.

I also think Backpocket makes a great Hefe as well.

I dislike IPA's very much, so I don't touch those.

Certainly agree. I had a basil pale ale which was probably one of the most interesting beers I have ever had.

I had that one as well, and agree. They aren't necessarily the best, but they push themselves and have a good eye for flavor pairings.

They did a belgian IPA (normally hate the style) that was really good, especially when topped with a little OJ for a beermosa.

Plus, their tap room is very cool.

I've had Millstream from Amana and Backpocket from Coralville and think both are good. Kalona Brewery is on my list to try.

I've had to dump out beers from Millstream. I had a 6 pack of their Brown Ale that I think was infected or something. YUCK. And another one that hadn't carbonated or something.

I had a similar experience with the Hub City Brown Ale I threw into a HyVee make your own 6 pack back around 2008. Tasted like barf and is my worst beer tasted to date. Of course my roommate and I both drank ours to try to one up the other but in the end we were both losers.

Hub City was pretty bad. They're no longer in business (haven't been for awhile).

That stuff was nasty. Could have had every advantage with being one of the earlier local breweries. I bought a six pack once at the grocery store. Pretty sure I dumped out 5 and a half of them. Then later at a reception I attended, the beer choices were Hub City and one of the big three. That may be the only time in my life that I've chosen Busch Light over a craft beer.
