I don’t really have an issue with guys sitting out bowl games. I get not liking them sit out the regular season, conference title games, or the playoffs, but sitting out a glorified exhibition? Eh, doesn’t really bother me.
Most games are glorified exhibitions now, at least late-season. Not in the running for the Playoff, or maybe a Conference Championship? No real reason to play towards the end.

I partially blame that mentality on the existence of the Playoff watering down the rest of the bowls (having so many bowls plays into that, as well). At the end of the day, future career prospects are more important than the now -- better for players, arguably worse for the sport culture, but it is what it is

"Disappointed for the fans" would have been better imo, but I don't really have a problem with him using that word.

Can't blame someone who's positioned himself as a first round pick for protecting his future. We've seen what can happen. Anyone who bangs on him for doing so has never had to make a decision that could cost them tens of millions.

Oh, idk, maybe honor their scholarship and not sell out on teammates because you are so scared of getting hurt? Seriously, grow up, this exactly what people talk about when they are talking about the snowflake generation.

You think guys 20, even 10 years ago were just deciding not to play when they were perfectly healthy because there is a chance to get hurt? This reminds me of the Noland thread when I called him out, then everyone got all triggered saying he might get hurt so he just quit in the middle of the season.

sigh...where do I start. 20 years ago systematic child abuse was also allowed at one of the biggest college football programs in the country, the abuse and assaulting of women was covered up and allowed to happen, and coaches were made into gods that quite literally got away with breaking numerous laws. When you say snowflake and triggered and these other insane terms created by angry old white guys to describe people that aren't angry old white guys, you sound incapable of understanding that the current generation is skeptical because they have been lied to and hoodwinked by the older generations. The younger generation doesn't give out blind loyalty, because, why should they? The Universities and coaches make millions of dollars off these kids, so what if the few that do get to cash in on all the hard work that goes into getting drafted, put themselves first for once. The coaches don't seem to mind pulling scholarships, benching guys, or in this case, wasting a talent because of personality differences.

Also, Deion Sanders didn't play in his bowl game in 1988-1989 so it has been going on allot longer than whatever timeline is banging around in that head of yours.

So much this. Kirk's statement was out of line. What Fant did was smart

Bowl games used to be my favorite time of the entire season, I feel like its going to get worse every year if players continue this trend of sitting out. Where does it stop? A guy who thinks he's going to get drafted in the 6th round decides he doesnt want to risk it so calls it quits?

We can't let two dudes get married because somebody might marry a house!

Not as out of line as what will happen after the season. He will tell NFL teams not to draft him like he did DJK and he will ruin his career. Now that will be out of line.
DJK ruined his own chances of an NFL career and he was a mid to late round prospect at best....

I've played lots, go ahead and let me know how he's letting his team down for a potential bowl trophy.
While jersib may have played competitive sports he wasn't very good. If he had any inkling of making it to the next he would understand and support why athletes make this decision.

Is Iowa really going to miss him? Seriously, lately he only gets two or three passes thrown his way. I guess Iowa can claim they won't be able to use him as a decoy .... I mean specialist any more

What if he would have had 15 catches for 210 yards in the Orange Bowl... could have made himself a few million bucks. Can look at it two ways.
One game will never change a draft pick. The combine etc is waaay more powerful in determining draft status.

Lol, you know guys love me. This board would be extremely boring if everyone had the same opinion.

Besides, I only post during basketball season so you only have 3 more months of me. I'll probably be in a pretty good mood also because finally after 3 1/2 years Im finally confident Prohm has what it takes to continue the Hoiberg tradition.
This guy is about as likeable as a hemorrhoid.

Good for Noah. Great player, great Hawkeye. Kid is going to blow the combine up.

If they bring back the NFL players introducing themselves on TV and saying the school they went to, do you think Fant will say, "The University of Iowa", or will he give a shout out to his high school team? ;)

will the other tight end also go pro? Look like they also lost a reserve cornerback too.
