Guess I never really thought too much about it. From a fan standpoint if it lowered the price to go to a game (and I know it won't) then I'd like it.
From a business stand point I see why they may want more games. That's more TV money and more revenue.

I don't like it when they change things like this. Records are very important in sports. If somebody gets 20 more games over their career than another guy did, IMO it wouldn't be fair.

Also a greater chance for somebody to get hurt. Players careers would get shorter more than likely

Bad idea

There is just as much chance for a player to get hurt in a pre-season game as there is in a regular season game.

I agree, bad idea. 16 games is more than long enough to determine who the best teams are.

But the starters don't play the entire game in the pre-season so therefore the amount of time they are at risk to get hurt is shorter.

Plus those extra 2 games will just wear that much more on the players bodys and i think the playoffs will become more of a game of attrition with the teams with the most players standing will win.

It seems to be agreed that a longer season would be bad.

What if teams were allowed to carry more players? Teams would be able to carry first half/second half players or 4th quarter "closers" that would give the game a little twist. Just a thought. Personally I think we should keep it as is.

The question is in which direction would they expand the season. At the end? Well, the NFL season already extends into February - that's way too long. At the beginning? Well, I know I'm always dying for football season to get here, but regular season in mid-August just does not appeal to me. And we know they're not going to eliminate the bye-week in order to expand the season.

I'm usually one that's all about more football, but I'm just not a fan of this.

More injuries, and more players tanking it during games. Part of the problem with the NBA and MLB is due to the length of the seasons, players go into cruise control during stretches to save their bodies for the whole season and post season.

You'd need to have better depth because there will be more fatigue and injuries. The part that sucks too, is that you could end up having the good teams clinch a few weeks before the end, so there'd be less excitement the last couple of weeks.

They should really just take 2 preseason games away. There is no need for 4 of them.

I'd also like it if they actually ended the season in January. Take away 2 preseason games, get rid of the bye week (there are an even number of teams now; no need for it), and just stick with 16 games. You'd have a better product on the field.

The biggest sham is how NFL teams charge the fans the same price for tickets if it's a preseason game. No way I'd pay $60 to see a bunch of guys trying to make the roster!

For selfish reasons I wouldn't mind them lengthening the season by a couple of games as it gives me more Sundays to be extremely lazy, but on the other hand I like the way the season is right now. Don't mess with something that is so good the way it is right now.

Yeah. I think the problem is that the NFL has become a year round thing. They are breaking the draft up more. It likely will be 3 days. They have a big special when the schedules are released. They always seem to have the most offseason drama, plus the actual season goes from essentially August to February.

I like football too, but I also get tired of it as well...

If the schedule gets extended, we'll see even more platoon RB situations which the FF folks hate.

They'd probably need to add a 2nd bye week for each team to compensate for the extra injuries and wear/tear on the players bodies.

They need to extend the rosters already, and they need to have larger practice squads as well so QB's have more time to develop. The NFL is awesome at marketing, but they need some serious tweaking before this can happen.

It would also probably also signal even more reg. season games overseas.

Also, how many times has a good team jacked around and underachived all season and then made a late push but didnt make the playoffs(by a tiebreaker or whatever). That wont happen much anymore with the extra 2 games. i think this would take away from the parity factor they have created. It was a great story to have the Phins ion the playoffs this year. Give the Pats 2 more games and they probably over take them.

18 loses for the lions. seriously who wants to see that?
