I would agree with him on that. None of our running back have proven anything. As fans we have seen what they are capable of but neither back has had enough carries to be considered even average.

I am one that believes Shontelle will surprise much of the Big 12 though.

You mean David Ubben thinks Jantz is the way to go. Everyone else with ESPN have probably never heard of him.

Unless ESPN has scouts at our practices, their opinion on the topic is no more valid than mine.

To anyone outside the program, the appearance is Jantz would be the guy just because of the simple fact that we brought him in from a JC.

That said, still think Tiller will start against UNI.

This has been discussed before, but if you think about it there is no way in hell the staff would offer Jantz if they didnt think he was going to be the starter. Pointless to bring in a juco guy to play QB right now unless there was a very high probablity in the coaches mind that he would win the job.

Personally I think it's his to lose because I think the staff has to be looking at it that way. No other reason to bring him in.

I don't care who starts, just want the guy who gives us the best chance to win.

They aren't going to just give it to him. He has to earn in. That being said, they are doing everything they can to put him in the position to win it.

I agree with you. I don't think they offer him unless they believe he's the future here. That being said. I don't think this staff going to put someone in there to play if we have a better option. I know some people feel this is not true, but it seems to me this staff puts our best option to win on the field.

This. The staff brought Jantz in because they thought he could be our best option to win.

They aren't going to play if it turns out that he's not.

All I want out of this QB competition is a clear #1 by the end of 2-A-Days. None of this "using actual games as auditions" crap.

Tiller played a few games last year as AA's replacement when he got hurt. Maybe the staff brought in Jantz as more of an insurance policy in case Tiller (another running QB) got banged up.

Not saying that is the case, just saying it is a possibility and doesn't necessarily mean that Jantz will be THE guy v UNI.

I hear what you're saying,,,,,but I think we will see Tiller for UNI at the start. I think Rhoads is going to "work Jantz in". I think most people believe Jantz will be the eventual QB.

Coach Rhoads is big on team attitude and loyalty. He is going to make sure Tiller does not feel slighted. Additionally, (and no small matter) it is a long season. Unrealistic to think that ONE ISU QB will play the entire season without injury.

Couldn't agree more, auditions are not meant for games. Hopefully we learned from this with Bates/Arnaud, Flynn/Meyer, etc.

If Jantz is the #1 guy, I don't think the staff is going to *****-foot around with it. He'll start against UNI.

Same thing if it's Tiller. I don't think (read: I really, really hope we won't) we'll see one guy used to appease anyone or create a transition.

Meyer to Bates is the lasting impression from 2007. The lack of enthusiasm in the receiving corps would be boosted by a pass/catch QB with a chip on his shoulder. I loved how hard Flynn worked to improved the team- I think it would be awesome if we had a great crew of qbs so we could bolster our wrs.

IMO, Jantz has to outperform Tiller to get the starting nod versus UNI. If it is a tie then Tiller will get the nod. And that would be common sense since Tiller has started for ISU before. Unless Tiller clearly separates himself from Jantz then at the very least Jantz will get some snaps and a few drives. And I really wouldn't count out Barnett completely either.

IMO, the ceiling is a bit higher for Jantz and Barnett over Tiller. But this is college football and whoever leads the teams to points will get the job. I actually think that both Tiller and Jantz bring a strong rushing threat to the table. And this could cause a lot of problems for opposing teams. We definitely need more consistency from our receivers.

This QB race is overblown. We have 3 guys that are neck and neck, give or take slight advantages and disadvantages. Unless one guy separates himself from the rest, we more or less know what we're going to get at the QB position.

No matter which guy is taking the snaps, the real question is whether the receivers will be able to catch the ball when the time comes. Any of the 3 QB's are accurate enough to be able to be a game manager, which is really what the position is all about.
