Re: Will the Mt West want us?

I predict now the MWC won't want us so we are better off grouping with KSU, MU, KU, and maybe Baylor and trying to get the cream of the rest to the bigXII.

ISU has to find a way to join the Big 10. This is much bigger than athletics, ISU as a University has millions of research dollars and prestige at stake.

Again, I don't know why everyone thinks anyone will team up with us. KSU, KU, MO...they owe us nothing.

Re: Will the Mt West want us?

Zuban Mahente (sp) on M&M today said the MVC is not interested in ISU as far as he knows. Doesn't mean they won't be after everything shakes out.

MVC or MWC? Big difference.

As far as where we might end up... it could be anywhere. The MWC is definately no lock. And if that falls through... then I don't know where? The MAC? It could be VERY ugly folks... prepare yourself.

I thought I read that when they didn't offer BSU, someone with the MWC mentioned that KU, KSU, and ISU would all be better options than BSU.

Re: Will the Mt West want us?

I cannot imagine that ISU would be a plum get for the Mountain West. Schools have nowhere near the athletic budgets and revenue streams of the Big 12, and as the OP touched on, we really don't add any revenue to them. We would just cost the MVC a lot in travel.
Plus it would cost us a mint to travel ourselves. Lots and lots of air miles.

Re: Will the Mt West want us?

I think it is too soon for us to expect we will end up with some sort of B12/MWC merger. I know I am in the minority but I think we have a reasonable chance to join the B10 if they go to 16. Until that door closes that's what I am hoping for.

Sorry, MWC.

Re: Will the Mt West want us?

My prediction is that the Big 12 stays as a BCS conference and adds teams like Utah, BYU, Boise State, TCU, Houston, possibly Cincinnatti, Memphis, or Louisville. Baylor, ISU, Mizzou, KU, and K-State and then seven more. Would be good if we could get Arkansas to leave the SEC and join the Big 12. Rumor is that they have been itching to make a move. Houston, Cincinnatti, and TCU would be great for television markets. If the Big 12 is going to stay a viable BCS conference it needs to start plans on its own network and soon.

This is where I'm placing my chips as well. We can form the foundation along with the other 4 remaining B12 teams to form a solid conference that is FAIR for all members.

I agree with this. I think Memphis is in to appease Kansas and maybe West Virginia also.

Re: Will the Mt West want us?

yeah the new big 12 will poach teams from a few conferences and get an AQ still

East: KU, KSU, ISU, MU, Cincy, & Louisville or Memphis
West: Houston, TCU, BYU, Utah, Boise St. & Colorado or Baylor

That is still a dam strong conference

Re: Will the Mt West want us?

Sadly it looks like the Big 12 destruction train has officially left the station today. Obviously the best landing spot for the clones would be the big 10. Almost as obvious is that there is less than 1% chance of that happening. With that said, the most realistic landing spot that would provide the softest landing would be the Mountain West Conference. The MWC currently has 9 members and has had some real nice success in BCS games recently. I have seen threads where it has been mentioned that ISU, KU, and K St could slide into the MWC and make a nice 12 team conference for both fball and hoops. My concern is that the MWC would have interest in KU, (great hoops tradition), K St, (political alignment with KU, recent hoops and fball successes), but not in ISU. Geographically we will be a long and expensive trip for non-revenue sports for schools like UNLV, New Mexico, and San Diego ST. We have a great passionate fan base, but unfortunately we do not bring much of anything in terms of tradition, revenue, or population that would drive tv contracts. Essentially we would be eating another piece of the conference revenue pie with no assurances that we would grow it for the other potential 11 members. It would be very tough sell to the conference members condsidering that it will greatly increase travel expenses and potentially take some of there existing revenue. On the bright side, it seems like the Big 10 played mizzery like a fiddle and now they are swinging in the wind with no home after being sure they were headed to the almighty Big 10!!!!!!!!
Road trip to Utah or Toledo. That is the question. Looks like this summer CF will not be boring.

Re: Will the Mt West want us?

Here are some facts on the MWC
Sponsors 19 championships (B12 has 21 excluding equestrian and rowing, which are not sponsored by the conference)
Plays conference bball tourney in Las Vegas
Only two schools have wrestling (Wyoming & Air Force)
Three schools have womens gymnastics (Air Force, Utah and BYU - note Utah is typically a top five team) I added wrestling and gymnastics, because they are sports where only 5 schools compete in wrestling and four in gymnastics in the B12, and if the MWC added ISU and MU, we both add those sports to the conference and may be able to add conference championships for those sports. If we want wrestling to continue, we have to find a conference that offers it, or it could be dead, and the same for gymnastics. We can't afford to lose anymore sports or we could lose D1 status.
SDSU is the largest school at 35,887 students, while the Air Force Academy is the smallest at 4,000 students. TCU has 8,865 students and Wyoming has 13,207 students (size of Baylor)
ISU would rank # 5 out of nine in enrollment with the current nine schools. BYU is 2, Utah 3, and UNLV 4. If you added MU, KSU, and KU, and ISU, we would be the seventh largest school. We are the 8th largest school in the B12.

The scary part of this is, taking MU with us helps in wrestling and gymnastics, because they offer both programs. KU and KSU do nothing for us in those sports, but we don't do anything for any of the three because we don't play baseball.

The more I look at this, I just don't have a good feeling about the MWC.

Re: Will the Mt West want us?

I have been on Colorado St's Campus all day today. (Even took a picture of CSU's Stadium) Talk Radio out here is all over the place. Nobody knows what is going to happen. Its kind of funny that everyone is freaking out. They have both the MWC (CSU) and the Big12 (CU) angle. I get the feeling that that people want CSU and CU in an upgraded BCS MWC conference. Of course I bet if I was in Boulder right now it would be different.....$$$$$
No ISU bashing by the way...

Of course I am out walking around CSU's campus with an ISU polo is probably fueling the fire. T
