This is what i hate about one and done. Irving was a special player and i would have liked to see him more. The NBA and NCAA need to get together and figure out a different scenario for young players coming in. Doesn't MLB say that you have to be a junior to enter the draft. To many young players have to many other people having an agenda to get them to make the $$$$ and it hurts not only them but also the NCAA. anybody else have feelings about this

MLB can also draft kids out of HS.
I believe it is you can enter the draft right out of high school but if you decide to go to college, you have to go for 3 years. I think this would be a great model for basketball.

The NBA and NCAA need to reach an agreement that somewhat mirrors MLB. Give HS kids a choice of going D-League for one year or playing college ball for 3 years before becoming draft eligible. The NBA doesn't want to scout HS kids nor have them go straight to the NBA and the one-and-done is bad for the NCAA. This solution works for both parties.

The NBA is not going to go back to allowing kids to come right out of high school. They get a years worth of free promotion from the NCAA now. The NBA doesn't care, how the NCAA feels about this, this is soley about protecting their product. There is going to be a push to change the rules so that you have to be two years removed from your high school graduating class to enter the draft during the CBA negotiations this summer, but you won't see the NBA adopt the MLB rule.

Basketball adopting the MLB 3 year college stay is probably never going to happen. Most baseball teams have 5-6 minor league teams for their players - easily 150-200 minor leagers for each team.

If the NBA adopts this rule, 100 or so basketball players could opt not to go to college (baseball has many more than that). Assuming they play 4-6 years of minor league ball, where are all the teams for them to play on.

What? I agree that the NBA is never going to adopt that rule but it's certainly not for the reason you listed. Why would 100 players opt not to college? There would only be a handful, at most, each year declare for the draft right out of high school.

Elton Brand and Luol Deng?

I do know Brand hates Duke now, they basically treated him as an outcast. Saying he wasn't doing it the "Duke" way. He got a lot of hate mail.

I may be the bad guy here but I honestly don't blame the kid. I have seen several mock drafts where he is either the #1 or #2 pick in the lottery. That's a lot of dough. I know it may be naive to think he will but he can always finish college later on but the opportunity to make that money may not always be there. He has to make the best business decision for himself and his family.

Now with what seems to be an NBA lockout looming, I can't say I would do the same thing with all the potential uncertainty out there but if he wants to take off for the paycheck then more power to him.

Irving is getting some of that, too. Deadspin has an article up showing this sarcasm filled open letter from a Duke fan to Irving.

Duke fans think quite a bit of their program.

Why would you be the bad guy? The NBA has its rule. I honestly don't see how it hurts college. If you don't want the one and done players, don't recruit them.

Irving should go pro, he's the best prospect in this draft. Williams is a tweener, Barnes is slow, Sullinger is short.

I agree that the NBA will not go back to allowing kids come right out of HS, which is why I suggest that they have to go 1 yr of D-League or 3 years of college prior to being Draft eligible.

Now if the NBA wants to chage the current rule to where you have to be 2 years removed from HS and can get by with it legally, that is fine by me. It certainly beats the current format.
