I hope its the real thing this time. I get my hopes up every time the rumor mill get wound up, then when it doesn't happen I get closer to rooting and doing it myself.

What has kept me from rooting is an issue I had with the external speaker. My speaker just quit working one day. Not blown, or quiet. No sound at all. I wasn't doing anything at the time, so it wasn't a setting. Went on for three days. Then I was mowing the lawn with Pandora running through the headphones, and when I was done it worked again. Again, nothing changed, it just started working. Anyone else had an issue.

Well the bottom link is VZ's support for it, so its real. Not sure if they do it all in bunches or small groups at a time.

Hope it goes better for those updating than it did with my motorola droid. Got the update notice on my phone last friday and it proceeded to partially brick my phone. Took it in to verizon and the guy said that is happening with some phones. He pushed the update to the phone via computer and while the phone would now get past the boot screen it wouldn't activate for some reason. Got a replacement phone shipped to me by Tuesday so I can't complain to much.

Is eris even slated to get 2.2? Id guess your best bet there would be to root and install a custom rom.

Im looking forward to finally getting froyo on my incredible.

Speaking of which, I'm likely getting my Droid this weekend - which should I get? Droid 2 or Droid Incredible? Droid X is out because I don't want to have to carry something that big in my pocket.

Depends if you want the keyboard or not.

On a side note, I rooted and installed a custom rom on my Droid 1 today. It was definitely worth it. Overclocked to 1 Ghz and improved battery life. Tethering as well.

It really depends on if you think you need a physical keyboard. I came from a physical keyboard phone and havent missed it (the incredible works very well in landscape mode).

I believe the camera is better on the incredible (8MP vs 5MP i believe), and personally i prefer Sense to Motoblur (the skins on the OS).

I'd try them both out in the store just to get a feel for both as well. That brought me to the incredible, but thats just personal preference.

My coworkers really thought they'd need a keyboard so they got the Droid, and I got the Incredible. I'd say after two weeks they quit using the keyboard and just starting using the screen. I don't think they would go with the Droid again because they are very comfortable typing on the touch screen.

My next thing i have to decide... do i want to root and install unrevoked forever before Froyo rolls out. Id really like the option to remove things like cityid and vz navigator (why waste the time putting this on a phone with free google navigation??)

I agree, it looks legit this time, however they started rolling out the 720p/hotspot update for about a day before they stopped. I just hope it goes smoothly.

I was initially going to go with 2 because of the WiFi hotspot, but when I found out that Incredible does that as well, well, I think I wanted the Incredible in the first place.

I have the EVO and got Froyo 3-4 weeks ago. No issues here. Actually not a lot of real noticeable difference from 2.1.
