I have more faith in Campbell than I did with Rhoads, but this is reminding me of the 2012-13 stretch that was the beginning of the end for Paul.

Coaching tenure gets off to a great start with some big wins. Sign coach to raise and extension to avoid losing him to another school. Followed by a ‘meh’ year with high expectations that ended with a dud in the bowl game. Start off the next year with a perplexing loss to a low/mid major.

I’m fully onboard with Campbell, just hoping he will address the current deficiencies in offensive and special teams coaching. I really really don’t want to see this end the same way.
He sure seems to have a stubborn streak, though.

Campbell is starting to confirm what I've always feared of Iowa State football:

Success is minimal and fleeting.

Sustained success is not possible.
I have been watching Iowa State football since the late 1970s. I hate to say it, but you are right.

Need to get a real P5 offense coordinator and it will fix everything. Special team coach should be fired by tonight. No coach will be better then having one.

Well there is no special teams coach, so kind of hard to cut him loose.

No long hard look needed......look at that passive defensive series at the end of the first half......about 10 minutes of video will tell you that we are not any better than the baylor loss and other piss poor prevent win defense. The rush-3 gimic is played out......The passivity of that was infectious.....more devastating than a pink locker room.

Also I’m kind of pretty sure every major college football teams has a special teams coach. Hey at least we didn’t have any of our guys tackle our own punt returner this game. So we at least learned that in the off season

The rush 3 is maddening. It should be situational only. In today's game and in our bowl game, analysts were ripping on us for rushing 3 so often. There is a reason we ranked near the bottom of NCAA in 3rd down defense last year. Gave up a lot today too. Really hoping Campbell, Heacock and Co weren't simply one trick ponies at this point, but something smells.

Watching his press conference.

He didn't seem pissed off. He wasn't angry. He wasn't saying "this is unacceptable" He was tipping his cap to the better team. A Sun Belt team.

He seemed... resigned.

Someone needs to light a fire under the offensive coaching staff. They have gone back to their old habits of taking forever to call the next play. The players on the field lose any sense of rhythm and end up standing around waiting for the next play. It just sucks the energy out of them. For some reason this coaching staff can’t make quick decisions. Think about all of the past games where they burned a timeout because they couldn’t decide on a play call. Does this relate to the slow starts every season? Is the staff set on their game plan from the start, or does it take a game or two before they decide what is best for the team?

Like Chizik resigned? That guy's second season here was so surreal. So incredibly unsustainable in real time. What did he tell the Okie State coach again? "This job sucks" or something like that. wow. Only us.

Not the vibe I got. He seemed pretty measured in his responses, but I wouldn't say "resigned". It felt to me like there were a few questions that really annoyed him, but he held back. More interesting to me was his reference (at least twice) to this season's priorities as keeping players "safe". The covid-thing appears to be foremost in his mind. And he wasn't using it as an excuse for today's play.

Agree. Call a play and execute it. This staring at the sidelines for 15 seconds EVERY frickin down is ********. Give the QB an option to check off, but just freaking GO.

Why do some of you dip ***** continue to invoke Chizik. Have you not yet figured out ISU was just a pitstop for GC so Auburn could hire him w "head coaching experience".
