No, I count on my neighbor to do that. Then I can just take it from them.

Which show's characters are better off after a government collapse, Doomsday Preppers or Sons of Guns?

Not too worried about sons of guns. They'd be too busy arguing or trying to over engineer any plan they might possibly have. If they did manage to form a team, they'd be heard coming a mile away.

We always have about a month or 2 of food on hand. Not because we are stockpiling for the collapse as much as my wife finds good deals and buys a lot of it. And if it did happen, collapse, I also have guns to protect it.

I've thought about this a couple of times. And honestly, I'm not the type of person to tell people to go **** themselves in a dire situation. If people came, genuinely looking for help, it would be tought to shoot first.

I can't say I'm surprised by the responses here...both for and against. Some people get it...some don't.

Being in the investment business for 6 years and the biz world for 20, I've seen first hand the level of financial ignorance out there. People who have CC debt cannot understand simple interest, more less derivatives, CBO's, and other complex financial instruments. they dont look at the amount of people with no retirement or other savings. At the US debt load or future obligations.

We are going broke, and quite frankly I see no way to resolve that because we don't have the grit or determination to change our over spending...on a personal or gov level. Our financial ignorance is only surpassed by how spoiled and complacent we are. Not a good combo.

There is a huge, huge differencebetween a country with debt problems and a collapse you need to stockpile food to prepare for. But obviously the doomsdayers will always be their overreacting.

Actually every society in history has collpased. It might not happen in our lifetime or even my future grandkids lifetime but being prepared for a few months isn't a bad idea. Our food chain isn't as stable as a lot of people think.

Well of course it will eventually... But not because of debt in our lifetime like xrt said. Nuclear war or some disaster on a huge scale could do it, but not money problems.

There is more than a little truth to this. The level of financial illiteracy in America is SHOCKING.

I hate running out of ketchup, so I usually have an extra bottle or two in the cabinet.

I'm getting a side of beef in the next couple weeks. But mainly because the quality is better and I won't have to run to store for hamburger.

I would say about 7 months till all hell breaks loose; probably right after the elections in US. Obama will win; and there will probably be controversy over the election; either allegations of fraud or elections cancelled. It will start in Europe; financial collapse/bank runs will happen overnight. 2 weeks later it will come to the US. The shipping/tranportation industry will shut down overnight; 3 days later the food shelves will be emptied. Drought will decimate GMO Corn/Wheat crops this summer. A great plague will then be released; probably in 4 waves; the 2nd and 3rd waves wiping out the majority of people. Meanwhile the alliance of Russia/China/Iran will decimate the armies of the West in the Middle East; after that will they will begin their grand march onto the lands of the Europe. The US will be decimated by earthquake; tsunami; storms unimaginable. The Madrid Fault will break the lower central part of the US. Iowa will be an inland island and and most of Illinois and south; on the east of the Mississipi will be all water. The coastal areas of the US will fall into the ocean. A Grand Monarch; the last of the great monarchs the world will ever see will gather an army; and march to meet the Moslems. They final battle will take place in Germany; and through miraculous circumstances the armies of the East will be defeated. It will take 7 years to bury the dead; but afterwards a period of peace and peasent like living will by worldwide; a temperant climate will be normal throughout the midwest and growing will be abundant and fruitful. A period of peace shall last around 200-300 years...

True Story: Incyte has his emergency food supply stored in his avatar. I'm comin' after it, first sign of trouble. Let y'all come over for the roast. We can watch it all burn with the homebrew in MY basement.

The only reason to store food will do is get you through the first 6 months; get through the shock of the paradigm shift. Most people will be in such shock that the first 6 months [dec-may 2013] will be the most gruesome and most people will die then. If you want to survive you will most likely have to get in a bunker or secluded location for at least 6 months to a year.

Why not have a little extra food on hand? Look at what happens to stores at the hollidays or when a strom is predicted, they run out of food. I am not saying go crazy like some do but having a little extra just in case isnt a big deal.

You only need enough to last until 12/21/12.

If **** goes down, I'm taking my tent, freeze-dried food, and Edible Plants book to Kings Canyon where I will probably still get shot and eaten, maybe even by a bear, but whatever.

I don't, but there's nothing to be concerned about in California. The sun shines every day

Stockpiled food will be of little help as you are sinking into the pacific. You should tie all your soup cans together though - life raft style - you'll be the envy of the neighborhood!
