Keep in mind this off season schools have the Collective money and the revenue sharing money from the school to spend (up to $21 million) it’s making things ridiculous.
I think it's going to be interesting to see how P4 coaches handle roster construction going forward. Do they utilize all 15 scholarships now, divvy up funds between more bodies and deal with possibly more headaches, etc? Or do they stick with 12 to 13 scholarship kids, have more money available for fewer kids and don't have as many guys with expectations of big minutes while sticking with some walk-ons or unused roster spots?

Tim Miles was on the radio a few days ago here in Minnesota and he said if he had it his way. NIL deals would/could be multiple year deals with buyouts so that if a school wants to get your player, they will have to pay the old school money that they can use for NIL. Similar to coaching contracts.

This way schools would get compensated for their scouting and developing in the lower levels.
It's a great idea, but since it wouldn't favor the top tier of teams with the most money, it will never happen.

All kinds of things are doable, but the NCAA has to officially shed it's academic amateur status first. Giving up nonprofit status is a big deal for them with many facets to management. They also have to have antitrust protection from the government to negotiate for all member institutions with a players' union to hammer out these kinds of details. That isn't a slam dunk either. There will be many brand schools and a couple major conferences who will lobby against it since they have more to gain in the current chaos. I think ONLY when the current system starts to cost the brand schools/P2 in ways that really hurt, will they get on board with everyone else. So don't hold your breath everybody.

Rumors are he got around $1.5 mil which is crazy.
It’s the best sign that things are horribly, horribly wrong. Kudos to Dishon for his bag, but his talent is worth about $50k and a bag of Cheetos. Not the larger bag even, but the small sh*tty one from a vending machine that’s clearly overcharging

I liked DJ despite the fact he "bad beat" me on a bet with a last second putback.

If the $1.5M figure is true, it suggests one of two things to me:
1. the overall water level of NIL $$ has gone up by about 5x vs last year
2. bigs are hard to find and thus high cost - like good QBs in the NFL, even average ones get overpaid

And:
3.) it’s still a wildly imperfect market, as close to a crapshoot as it is a situation in which buyers know what they’re getting

Just thought this was interesting.

Can't blame the young man for securing the bag and also, cant blame TJ for saying its probably best for his team going forward.

Can we all start calling NIL something else? NIL stands for “Name, Image, and Likeness.” These players aren’t getting paid for their name, image, or likeness. They are getting paid to play. Just call it “college free agency,” because that’s what it is. Calling it NIL at this point is stupid.

Ask what he’d make without student/state subsidized college branding. Meaning in Europe, Asia or American minor league basketball. Probably in 75-150k range because he can’t shoot the three. The 1.4 million difference in demand is effectively created by students paying tuition and for public schools taxpayers subsidizing the university.

It’s funny because in the NBA and high level Euro ball bigs who aren’t quick and can’t shoot the three are the most worthless type of player. I don’t doubt it’s untrue at this lower level they are in demand though.

The weird thing is that such a lower level of basketball, like crappy ACC conference that got 1/18 teams to round of 32, has similar demand and pay to leagues in Spain or Germany or role players and end of bench players in nba. People need to ask who creates the demand for lower level basketball and how. The answer is people paying to support the college brands (not just through NIL but by paying to live and study there) and thus why the colleges need to take back massive levels of control somehow.
