I get that he probably won't totally tranform himself as a player, but to think after a year of Big 12 play, playing in Kyle Green's defense, and having the luxury of an offseason of work - something he didn't get last offseason - he couldn't improve his game not insignificantly is somewhat short sighted.
Even if Jackson improved his game over the off-season. IMO the staff is looking for a different talent-set to be our starting post. Maybe even our future back-up post.

Our defense took a step back this year and the staff needs to rebuild the roster to be consistent with the desire to be an elite defense. That means a post with the quickness to be an effective trapping defender. It probably also means a post who can be a shot blocker and upper tier rebounder. If the staff felt Jackson could be that guy, then IMO he would be back.

Keep in mind this off season schools have the Collective money and the revenue sharing money from the school to spend (up to $21 million) it’s making things ridiculous.

Are there going to be binding contracts? Weren't there a few problems with athletes joining teams on promises that weren't fulfilled?

A great time to be basketball-only

Dump all current NIL into 3 months, then put huge revenue sharing into basketball knowing football schools can’t/won’t

And it’ll be pretty easy to launder NIL inducements through revenue sharing for the schools that don’t need to spend on football.

Which only means the wealthy P2s get the cap increased in 4 seasons

I think that Dishon was brought in to be a force against guys big men like Hunter Dickinson. However, the conference seems to be moving to quicker more agile big men. I also think (actually kind of hope) that we are going to look more European in our style of offense in a couple of years. Evolving toward that offensive style is not in Dishon's skill set.

I enjoyed seeing Dishon as a Cyclone and wish him the best going forward.

And what happens this upcoming year that is pushing that higher?
Revenue sharing but still, he's not worth 7 figures. Dix is rated #2 in the portal and rumor is his number is $1.2M. Jackson isn't even rated. I know those ratings don't mean everything, spaee me that lecture

I don’t understand the romanticizing by this fan base of guys that don’t cut it - particularly a mostly ineffective rental like Jackson. I don’t understand how it isn’t blatantly obvious to more people that some guys just don’t cut it and won’t ever cut it, and that we have a goal of maintaining momentum.

Dishon averaged around 20 minutes/game and no more because of a health issue. That would not improve.

He almost never could stay in front of his man outside of the lane and didn’t fill the defensive role that was needed. Almost always in quick foul trouble. An “offseason of coaching with Kyle Green” wouldn’t change his physical capabilities.

His hands are not good.

His IQ lacked.

Just not a talented guy, and didn’t give us the edge we needed to get over the hump.

And more importantly - can’t stress this enough- TJ didn’t renew him, a first for one of his starters in this portal era. Don’t come at me with Caleb Grill bullsh*t, that was behavioral.
I never said that he was ever going to have enough time to cut it here. TJ can't wait for a player to take years to develop and Dishon doesn't have years anyway. I responded to a post that said he is is what he is and he isn't going to get any better. I believe that he can make real progress, but TJ obviously believes it won't be enough to make him more valuable than what he thinks he can get in the portal. That's fine. But I think that post was selling a player short who was learning a new defensive scheme without the benefit of an offseason to really live it. ISU has a lot of examples of players who took time to get better. Melvin Ejim had some of the worst stone hands you'll ever see when he arrived in Ames, but he became Big 12 player of the year. Rob Jones didn't have much going for him when he arrived but a hell of a motor. He wasn't great by the time he left but he was a key component for a pretty successful team.

Not every player that is leaving deserves to have every shortcoming magnified and every asset denigrated. Hell, not every player who is staying deserves that either. Heise had a huge shooting slump this year - the first big slump of his career. Instead of recognizing that he is a good player who was going through something and one bad stretch doesn't define a player people on social media decided to do all they could to tear him down.

No disagreement. I can believe that Jackson can improve and isn't just "he is what he is" - what I was responding to - while at the same time believe that ISU needs to improve in the portal at that position.

Players can opt-in by signing their NIL rights to the University or opt-out and go it alone with an agent. Most will opt-in and it should be all very transparent. The guys that opt-out, if they are more famous/popular, could make a lot more money on their own, but it is riskier.

We are firmly in the moneyball era of college sports, and while I think in hindsight a guy like Ward was better, there is just no guarantee the next guy will be better than Jackson.

It really will be interesting to see how it goes.

Does the talent improve or does it level off?

It still likely means really good seasons while also meaning the rich get richer and the gap increases but that was probably going to happen anyway.

“Prentiss, I really liked how, um, you kept shooting today even though you were 2/15. Please stay confident and we love you because you try real hard and you’re a Cyclone thus infallible heart eyes emoji”

I just wanted to observe there is a 90%+ chance that Prohm said EXACTLY this to Nixon

Is there more insight on the premium board about the juicy dysfunction stories from Fred and Steve's teams?

I'm super curious.

Is this that far off of TJ's telling his players who are struggling that they prove it every day in practice with their successful practice habits and despite it not going their way tonight he trusts them to show those habits on the court on game night.? That the team needs them to continue to shoot the ball with confidence and knock the open shots down?

I want TJ to continue to tell good players who are struggling on game night to keep trusting their practice habits and it will come around for them.

What a world it would be if all paid athletes - hell, let’s extend it to celebrities or anybody of high profile - were only told how wonderful they were. You’re describing a utopia and it sounds like something a 4 year old would say.

The internet anonymity thing is a whole different can of worms.
You don't HAVE to say anything at all, or a maybe just "I appreciate the effort you put forth for our team this year, even if it didn't work out here. Good luck wherever you end up."

Tim Miles was on the radio a few days ago here in Minnesota and he said if he had it his way. NIL deals would/could be multiple year deals with buyouts so that if a school wants to get your player, they will have to pay the old school money that they can use for NIL. Similar to coaching contracts.

This way schools would get compensated for their scouting and developing in the lower levels.

Euro soccer type setup basically, right?
