There's a happy medium Luth. I certainly do not expect him to say his team is bad or that he expects them to lose, but the way Rhoads tends to pump sunshine up everyone's rear ends is a little over the top IMO. Especially when the product has been less than ideal. Between his "look at me" speeches and press conferences, and his overwhelming positivity regarding his team you would think that at some point the product will start to resemble to the content of his words. If not, then it's just him trying to put lipstick on a pig.

The old sayings... "Put your money where your mouth is" and "If you have the balls to say it you better have the balls to back it up" come to mind. He's done plenty of talking, but his team hasn't backed it up. I don't think it's wrong for me to feel like he either needs to zip it or his team needs to start giving his words some merit. It's small dog syndrome. No one likes a little Chihuahua that just sits out in front of a house and barks and growls at everyone. If you're gonna talk then you better have some pit bulls behind the fence.

I agree with all of this. Time to put up or shut up!

Let's see what happens in the next 2 years. IMO, we should have a pretty decent year in 2015. Experience across the lines and depth pretty much all around. And hopefully a fully intact coaching staff for 2 years in a row.

I could be wrong because I don't particularly look at the names of posters often, but I swear this Section110 person has said in another thread that he is a Hawk fan. Why are people arguing with him like he's a Cyclone?

Because I cheer for both teams brother! Hate on me all ya want I don't really care. I just love football. I said this in another thread, but I was in the Army for 8 years. As far as I'm concerned, I'm proud to be American and I'm proud to be Iowan. When any of the schools in-state do well I cheer for them. My passion for football and the state of Iowa supersedes the general notion that if you're a Hawkeye fan you can't cheer for the Cyclones, and if you're a Cyclone fan you can't cheer for the Hawks.

I have season tickets to the Hawks, and my Dad has season tickets to the Cyclones. I won't lie... when the two teams face off my allegiance lies with Iowa. However, when Iowa has an away game and the Cyclones are at home I'm in Jack Trice with my Dad. For that reason, fall is my favorite time of year. Most Saturdays I'm tailgating and watching football. I have a blast in Iowa City and in Ames. I understand the rivalry. I just don't get why people have to be so ignorant about it sometimes. There's nothing wrong with having a rooting interest in both teams. As far as I'm concerned you can't find better people in the entire world than what we have right here in Iowa. I don't let school allegiances get in the way of having a good time.

in recalling last year's offense, I think many people have forgotten how inept mess ' s play calling actually was. How many zone reads and punish your qb does a guy have to run before he realizes is not going to work. Imo mangino will mix up the play calling a lot more to keep the defenses honest.

110 is trying to get us to talk about Lanning as QB (in disregard for Rohach and Richardson) in a thread about the defensive depth chart. Classic troll move.

Disagree with your assessment that we are thin at DT. The accurate description is that we are young and unproven at DT. We will have at least 6 DT candidates in Cousin, Aka, Garcia, Trent, Taylor and Ayeni. Plus a couple of walkon bodies, one of which is Harmeyer, a two time letter winner at Iowa Western and Mikayle Phillips, a freshman 300 pounder who was 2nd team all state for Waterloo. In a normal year under Coach Mac you would be looking at probably 3 less scholarship DT's on roster. Or the scholarships would be filled by our 2 walkons.

So the accurate assessment of our DT's is that we are extremely young. The upside of that is everyone is likely back for next year as well. Although we thought that would be the case this year. However that is why we brought in so many Juco's on the DL.

We are thin at DT. Our two top DTs are gone.

Actually, we aren't thin, there is already a gaping hole in our fabric.

First at thing you have stated that I agree with. Opposite for me however. I always root for the Cyclones as I am am ISU grad, but would prefer Iowa to win every game EXCEPT when playing the Clones. For example, if we beat the Hawks and then they go 11-1, it can only make the Cyclones look even better. Rooting against Iowa, for spite, actually is also bad for Cyclone fans and the perception of our team overall. As an Iowan, I will always cheer for our states other teams, but Cyclones are and always will be my #1.

Which I have nothing but respect for. I understand people getting worked up about the rivalry. I understand people want to take sides. When it comes to head to head match-ups you have to do so. Outside of that I'm happy to root for both teams.

Darn it. Swing and a miss by me. I still think you are trollish, but just got my argument messed up.

It's all good. I usually have pretty strong opinions. I understand if you don't like it or agree with them. I'm just trying to be objective though. I don't think it's trolling. That's not my intent anyways.

You can deny it all you want, but you can't argue with what happened. We had 5 loses within one possession. We were awful no doubt, but that is exactly my point. Some how we were awful and had 8 wins within our grasp. There are no moral victories but if we didn't get screwed against Texas and the offense had any fluidity at all, we won AT LEAST two more games last year.

Keep believing. Sort of with you. My point with Texas would be that the way that played out seemed to really drag our guys down, so that we sort of lost more than one game that night. I have a hard time thinking we had the UNI or Iowa games "within our grasp". Texas Tech beat us fairly soundly as well. I'll give you Texas and TCU, but point out that West Virginia could have gone the other way.

Saying "if the offense had any fluidity" is downplaying the problem a little, IMO. We have to be a LOT better than we were last year on both sides of the ball to be respectable this year. And given the point of this thread is our supposed depth on the defensive side, color me a little skeptical.

We had a lot of problems last year but we absolutely beat Texas. The other games are whatever, and we also had the easiest schedule since Rhoads' first year.
