I think part of the problem for DC is they came in late to the game. So 1) A little superhero fatigue has set in for some people and if it isn't something new and innovative it gets put down. 2) Marvel really upped the superhero movie game and made great movies. If DCs had come out first I think they would've been better received. Also, doesn't help that the Dark Knight movies were so awesome.

Again, I'm a big rankings guy, so I figured I'd update my overall DCEU/Marvel rankings to include Suicide Squad. I'm including the MCU movies simply because the DCEU only has 3 movies so far, which makes for a pretty lame list.

  1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier – Thought this movie had the best drama and best action scenes of all the movies
  2. Marvel’s The Avengers – Iconic way to pull everything together with the best villain in the MCU
  3. Captain America: Civil War - Most fun and one of the funniest movies on the list. Also produced the best action sequences, had some of the best character moments, and showcased the best balancing act of so many characters. Biggest downfall was having a very good, but not great story line, which kept it from topping my list.
  4. Iron Man – Epic way to start the Universe with an unbelievable star for a headliner. Never got into the Iron Monger villain though.
  5. Guardians of the Galaxy – Best space epic since the original Star Wars movies. Also was probably the funniest movie of the MCU so far.
  6. Man of Steel - Unlike many others, I actually really liked this movie, particularly the casting, the score, the cinematography, and the villain. Unlike many Marvel movie's villains, Zod actually had a point to being there.
  7. Ant-Man - Had super-low expectations, but walked away pleasantly surprised. Yet another weak villain, but contained some great comedy with some great actors. Paul Rudd won me over when I once was really skeptical of him.
  8. Captain America: The First Avenger – Epic first-half of the movie with Cap’s origin story, but believe it or not, I found Red Skull a little underdeveloped. Loved the WWII time period aspect of this one.
  9. Iron Man 2 – Many will mock me, but I actually really enjoyed this movie and actually enjoyed it more than Iron Man 3. Make fun of me all you want, but I didn’t think Whiplash was that bad. I think this movie gets unfairly criticized.
  10. Avengers: Age of Ultron – Fun movie, but suffered from too much CGI action, too many characters, and too many storylines. Big disappointment overall to me, second only to Batman v Superman, mainly due to expectations.
  11. Thor: The Dark World – Criticize me if you will, but I actually liked this movie and thought it got an unfair bad wrap. I didn’t find Malekith that bad and I actually liked this movie more than the original Thor.
  12. Iron Man 3 – Don’t know what it is, but I just never really got into this one, and it probably had something to do with the big Mandarin villain twist towards the end. Also never really liked Killian either. Again, I surprisingly like Iron Man 2 better
  13. Thor – Don’t know what it is, but I just never got into this storyline or villains as much as the others. Again, I surprisingly liked Thor: Dark World more.
  14. Suicide Squad - Had all the potential in the world to be a great movie, but just wasn't. Had some fun stuff, introduced some great characters, but suffered from terrible pacing, terrible villain, terrible editing, and too many plot holes. Deadshot and Harley Quinn were the highlights.
  15. Batman v Superman - Haven't walked away from any of these movies quite so disappointed, mostly due to expectations, as I REALLY wanted this to be good. Bad characterization, confusing plot, too many Easter eggs, too many plot holes, bad editing, too much CGI. While there were a few things I liked, particularly Affleck as Batman and Gadot as Wonder Woman, I really hope what this movie did wrong can be corrected.
  16. The Incredible Hulk – Decent movie, but not great. Never was into Norton for the role, so was glad when the switch was made.

Interesting list. Thanks for posting. Definitely have some surprising ones in there for me, particularly having Iron Man 2, X-Men, and X-Men Origins Wolverine so high, and having Deadpool and Ant-Man so low. Nevertheless, to each their own. With X-Men, I tell people to watch it again and you might not rank it so high, as that is what happened when I went through and re-watched all of them. I actually enjoyed Ant-Man, mainly because it was more of a smaller-scale breath of fresh air that was fun, but didn't have the world-ending scenario yet again. Not all of these movies have to be such high stakes. I also came in hating Paul Rudd, but came out loving him. Sure, it wasn't the best Marvel movie ever, but it was an enjoyable middle-of-the-road one for me at least that didn't hurt the brand at all. Lastly, one thing I really liked on this list was seeing X-2 sitting so high on there. Sure, it probably wouldn't be quite that high on my list, but I definitely still love that movie the best of all the X-Men movies. That was also one of those movies where I watched it again and its quality still held up very high. Again, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The original X-Men is high for me because I am a lifelong fan of X-Men comics but it was also the first time a hero team movie was on the screen and they nailed it. Then X2 was even better. X-Men and X2 are like a 60s Corvette while Avenger movies are 2016 sports cars off the line. Both great in different ways. I think the character development in the first two X-Men movies is much better than the two Avengers movies which is the reason I'd have them higher. I'm not sure you could make a better X-Men movie for actual X-Men comics fans than X2, first class comes close but it wasn't quite right.

Origins Wolverine I feel like a lot of the negative hype was 2 things. The first was hundreds of thousands of people bashing an unfinished cut of the film that leaked just before opening. The second was the weird way they handled Deadpool. I'm not a huge Deadpool fan anyway and I really think it holds up compared to most of these movies on repeated viewing. Lieb Schrieber was amazing as Sabertooth. It's not my favorite but it's not nearly as bad as it's made out to be, Xmen 3 is the horrendous X Men movie people are looking for and The Wolverine was not great either.

To me Ant Man was horrible because it was supposed to be funny and I didn't laugh once. It's almost an achievement that a movie with Paul Rudd can go that long without a laugh. If it was actually funny, like GoG, I probably would have loved it. As it is an episode of Southpark has way more value to me.

Lord have mercy. I respect your opinion but this is proof how different peoples opinions can be. I felt X-Men Apocalypse, Last stand, Origins and Thor Dark World were the worst. Suicide Squad was equally bad but had Will Smith and a good soundtrack to make the movie tolerable. The writing of it felt like a teen movie similar to Twilight.

Good stuff. I like your vintage car analogy. Still not on board for the X-Men Orgins Wolverine love, but I did really like Sabertooth in that movie at least. Wouldn't mind seeing him reprise his role either, even though I mostly try to forget that movie even happened. As for The Wolverine, that was a weird one for me as I really liked the first 2/3 of the movie, but not crazy about the back 1/3 of it. Lastly, with the humor of Ant-Man, I actually was laughing a ton while watching that movie. GOTG probably contained even more laughs for me though. If anything, it just shows that humor hits all people differently, which is fine, especially when you bring up South Park and I don't find any of that funny. However, as maybe a slightly closer comparison, I've always found Family Guy very funny. Again, to eat their own I guess.

UPDATE 12:05 pm ET: The Wrap is now reporting that Deathstroke is in fact the primary villain of the solo Batman movie. While we’re still unsure if this is test footage for that film or if Deathstroke may also be making a cameo appearance in Justice League, at least we now know where to expect Deathstroke’s arrival in the DCEU.

From Ben Affleck's official account

Looks like Deathstroke is either in Justice League, the stand-alone Batman movie (or possibly both).

That looks pretty Dope. I would love to see Deathstroke appear at some point, and I think he would be particularly great in the solo Batman flick. With that said, I'd be okay with him first appearing to a small degree in The Justice League, but lets not overstuff that movie too much to the point where he becomes an afterthought. Deathstroke is big enough where he really shouldn't be sharing the stage with anyone. He deserves to be the sole big bad of some movie and the Batman movie would likely be best. Also, since Affleck is writing and directing that one, I've got confidence that he won't screw up Deathstroke.

As for good potential actors, it has been rumored to be Joe Manganiello, which is great because he would probably be my #1 pick as well. The dude looks the part and I think he could act the part as well. With that said, I think whoever it is will have tough shoes to fill since Manu Bennett did a pretty darn good job recently with the part on the TV show Arrow. In fact, he was one of the best things about that show.

On another note, this past week saw Justice League Dark get a director, which means that movie is officially a go, even though we have no idea yet on when it will be slated for:

http://www.theverge.com/2016/8/24/1...g-liman-has-left-for-dc-s-justice-league-dark

I'm mixed on this one as I'm just kind of gun shy on any more new team-up movies in the DCEU without already established characters. I know the goal with this universe has been to jump in quickly into an already established world with all these characters verses the Marvel slow build-up model, which I was originally all for. However, after two botched attempts at this (Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad), I'm shifting more and more to wanting them to take their time with these things. For instance, I would love to see a solo Constantine movie in order to fully establish his character before we ever see this Justice League Dark Team-up movie.

I agree with this as an overall plan, not just for Constantine. I always enjoy the initial "origin" solo movies for the characters before a team-up. I can understand Batman not getting another origin movie as its been done several times, but even Superman got his origin/solo movie and the whole world already knows how he came to be. IMO, that is why Marvel has been and probably will continue to be more successful than DC. Marvel takes the time for a solo movie for each character (the more relevant ones at least) to allow those who aren't completely knowledgeable in comics to start on the same page as those who are.

Deathstroke is one of my favorite villains. Bennet was really good in Arrow. I would definitely be on board for Deathstroke to join the DCEU

For those unaware, it has been official for a little while now that a Booster Gold movie is in the works over at DC which will be headed by Greg Berlanti, the creator of pretty much everything DC TV (Arrowverse). With that said, according to a recent interview with Berlanti, it doesn't look like the Booster Gold movie will be a part of the DCEU, but will rather just stand on its own. Gotta admit that I'm pretty disappointed at this news as Booster Gold would be awesome to have within the DCEU. Seems like a stupid move to me.

While Suicide Squad looms still as a pretty big disappointment in my mind, there is no doubt it still made pretty decent money:

http://screenrant.com/suicide-squad-2016-summer-movie-profit/

The hard part about the financial success with both this and Batman v Superman is that I feel it is mostly due to the goodwill star power of the characters. I also believe the killer marketing helped Suicide Squad along as well. Shoot, just imagine how much money they could have made had these movies actually been good. Both should have easily surpassed a billion dollars in sales. However, the hard part about goodwill is that it only last so long if you keep producing crappy products. With that said, I think Wonder Woman will still ride that goodwill train regardless of how good or bad it is, but past that, Justice League will likely have to stand more on its own merits, and especially anything after that.

Zack Snyder just released a photo of Batman's new tactical bat suit in Justice League:

justice-league-movie-batman-tactical-suit.jpeg

Thoughts? First of all, I think the suit itself looks completely BA, and probably is the best bat suit yet in my opinion. Love the all black. However, putting the suit aside, I still don't know what to think about those new eyes. Its almost as if they just plugged sun glass lenses into the mask. I get that it is a "tactical" bat suit, so they kind of make sense, I just don't know. Its not that I hate them, I just don't know if I love them yet either.
