Hey guys. Can anyone give me an overview of what happened/was said tonight? I don't imagine anything earth shattering happened, but was unable to listen since we started our preseason conditioning tonight. Any insight would be great. Thanks.

here were some highlights that I recall:

- Jason Carlson is not in the top 6 receivers which kind of surprised me. also surprising is that Chizik praised Houston Jones at WR. I thought he was somewhat off the radar screen.

- although massive guys who would normally play inside at guard, the staff put Haughton and Hicks at tackle because we need more help there and these guys are athletic enough to play the position. Chizik said we've made a major league upgrade at guard since the start of last year and are already deep there. (he also said Haughton's at 340 and they're trying to squeeze every chicken wing they can out of him otherwise he'd be at 360). He said Haughton is not ready to start yet, but based on Chizik's tone I would not be surprised to see him start this year.

- he likes Ter'ran Benton, Kennard Banks, and Leonard Johnson in the secondary. said they would all play a lot this year.

those were the most specific, insightful things. does anyone remember anything else?

grayshirting this season down in texas i believe. Took test once and didn't qualify so he took it again and it was too much of a leap from his previous one so they thought he had cheated so he had to do one with a proctor in the room and he didn't get past the needed levels so hes going to comm college i believe and wants to be back in january.

Chizik said Carlson is not in the 2 deep because other guys have outplayed him. In fact, he said Carlson is not in the top 6 receivers.

One more thing, Pollard was on the first half hour and he said season ticket sales are currently over 33,000 and could push 34,000 depending on additional student sales before the game. and that's without the 3,500 applebee's mini-pack tix sold. w/ the mini-packs Pollard said sales could go over last year's 37,000. i think this dispels some of the negative rumors that have circulated.

add to that there were there fair share of bumbling people that couldn't get to the point of their question sometimes as usual. That's the one thing that I can't stand are the people that call in and don't really have much of a point "Gene, we love you and we love you came to Iowa State. We even named our dog Chizik after you!" Please people, don't kiss the man's butt just ask your halfway intelligent question and move on. Sometimes even the questions are not the greatest either...

Gene seemed excited about the new talent and level of competition at the WR position. He also mentioned a couple of walk-on WR's who have a chance to contribute. He certainly isn't writing Carlson off. He likes the fact that he has 3 years of eligibility remaining.

Why would he still be on the roster if he is at a Juco in Texas? I'm confused...

I loved the guy who tried to argue with Jamie that the KC game with KSU is a terrible idea. The guy just wouldn't let it die. Even had to point out how it's going to "kill" the Ames economy with 1 less game next year.

All I could think of was...

G/F and I went to Ames last night to eat dinner and watch the show in person. It was sometimes hard to hear the callers, but it was a lot of fun to actually see Jamie Pollard and Coach Chizik answer the questions, interact with the crowd, etc. During commercial breaks they had free raffles for Cyclone gear and Applebee's gift cards. There weren't a lot of people there but I'm sure that will change as the season goes on. If you have a free Monday night this year I thought it was worth the time.

Great news, considering the economy and re-seating we probably couldn't ask for more.

I agree. They often have specials at the bar as well which is pretty cool. I do wish they would turn up the volume a bit in the main dining room. You can hear everything better in the restrooms...

I find myself going to a few football and basketball call in shows from time to time. Actually, if I do go to Applebees that's the main reason why.

A few years ago they were doing $1.99 22oz beers during the call-in show. We went every week for that and dinner. Got to know the bartender well enough that our beers would get poured the second she saw us walk in the door.

Cy'd Lines Show -- Phone number?

Anyone here have the phone number for the show? Thought I had it, but the number I tried led to a porn chat line.

The show wasn't aired by any radio station in the Waterloo area, thus I did not hear the phone number that John undoubtedly mentioned a number of times during the show.

I tried: 866-489-7242. My recollection from last season must be off.

Thanks.
