Cyclones Need to Have Short Memories
:: February 14th, 2008 :: 5:07 pm

The ISU Men’s Basketball team just can’t seem to catch a break. For much of the game last night against OU we were able to shut down the Sooners’ vaunted inside game, only to have their struggling outside shooters go nuts and knock down a bunch of perimeter shots. To top things off, OU made 25 out of 29 from the free throw line against us after shooting miserably during their 3 game losing streak prior to last night. Every time we made a small run to get the game close, they came up with an answer. Many times it was unconventionally, such as when Blake Griffin pushed Jiri Hubalek’s outstretched arm down on a drive to the basket and somehow got to shoot two free-throws. Another killer was freshman Cade Davis going 3-3 from downtown after coming into the game shooting 21% from behind the arc.

Regardless of how it happened, the result was a 76-64 defeat for ISU and that drops their conference record to 3-6. If we want any chance of salvaging our season and climbing back toward .500 in the conference, it has to start right now. On Saturday Nebraska will come into a sold-out Hilton Coliseum to play ISU for the second time this year. In the matchup in Lincoln, it was a tie game at the half before the Cyclones came out flat and turned it over several times in dropping the game 56-64. With 3 of the last 5 games on the road and the 2 home games being against Kansas and Kansas State, this would be classified as a “must win”.

On Saturday expect to see an energized crowd willing the Cyclones to victory. It is the ISU Basketball Centennial Celebration, and many Cyclone legends will be in attendance for the game. Tip-off will be at 3:00, and there is an alumni game starting at 12:00 before the game that your ticket will get you in for. 50 former Cyclone basketball stars are slated to appear in this game, and the first 10,000 fans in the door will receive a commemorative poster. With all of this action and incentives, there is no reason for anybody with a ticket not to show up. Lets get there early and go crazy in propelling ISU on to a much-needed victory against the hated Huskers!
