Stop in Humboldt and talked with KJ for awhile. Say around 10 guys going to University Nationals. Tanner going to 165 and Lelund going to 174. Still have a couple that may visit this summer.

Any word on who fills the gap at 184?

If Tanner can make 165 and be 100% that's a nice boost for the team. Hopefully that isn't to much weight for him to pull.

Gabe will not be ready at start of season. Maybe somebody like Blayne Briceno. 157 might be Nardo (Rodriguez-Spencer)

184 could be a multiple of people. Carson Powell, Dane Pestano, Logan Molina are probably the leaders. Maybe a transfer. Haven't ruled out the true frosh or Duke Egli.

Going to CKLV again. Sounds like might go to Grapple in the Garden or Midlands. So might not be at Scuffle this year. Would like to do Garden since Nationals are there, but expensive trip.

Sounds like Wyoming in Ames is only WWC team on schedule for next year.

The tradition of Midlands is cool but I kind of liked the Scuffle. Lots of tough competition and exposure to guys who we normally might not see until nationals. Grapple in the Garden would be great to get the guys comfortable with the arena.

This strikes me as a pretty big deal. I felt that both Tanner and Lelund were somewhat outhorsed last year. I'm assuming coaches are confident they can both make the new weights. I think this could make each of them into contenders. Hope there's a dogfight to fill 84 ... did we consider any transfers? Harrington should be solid and hopefully Quean continues improving. Did coaches say anything about the lower weights?

Earl might redshirt. Depends if John Meeks or somebody else fills in. Sounds like trying to get strongest team available for following year. Gabe, John Meeks, Lelund, Kyle, & Quean then add maybe Earl. Boston & Harrington

Wasn't Tanner going to be ranked pretty high coming into 174? Is this a good move for him personally?

That will be a good move for both Weatherman and Weatherspoon. I think they both would have been at 165/174 the past two years had Moreno not been at 65. I've actually heard that weatherman beats Moreno in the room, so looking for big things out of Tanner next year. I expect him to be an all-american next year, and I think Lelund is probably looking at a low AA/Rd 12 type of placement.

It will be interesting to see where Dieringer and Bo Jordan end up at. Both were HUGE at 165 last year. Dieringer could easily move up, but whoever Okie State sends at 165 will be a hammer. They are loaded from 157-184, some serious studs will be sitting on the bench.

The season prior to this one when they both were at 174 Lelund had wins that lead me to think he'll be able to have comparable results at 174 to Tanner. So if Tanner can make 165 without it causing his wrestling to suffer the team is stronger with them at 165-174 than at 174-184.

I don't disagree about the team, but I am wondering about Tanner personally. Do you think he will have a harder time making AA at 165 than 174?

Personally I think ISU is a stronger team and has better chances to earn 2 AAs with Tanner and Lelund at 165 and 174 than I do at their current weights. 174 cleared out a lot, which would bode well for whichever wrestled there, but I think Tanner at 165 is better than Lelund at 184. Just my hunch/feelings.

Weight is the only thing that I will wonder about with Weatherman, but I doubt he wants to go down to 165 if he doesn't think he can truly handle it.

I would love it if the Cyclones went to the Midlands every now and then (Maybe two years at the Scuffle then one year at Midlands). It's history really does run deep and I always think it's a better tournament when Iowa State is there.

No clue how much weight he cuts, but he's never looked like a huge 174 pounder.

Thanks for the input, guys. If he is comfortable at 165, it could work out well for him, who knows. I'd really love to see him get that AA this year.
