It was good to see the alley full top to bottom last night. Gonna miss you guys over the next break as we needed that energy in the Minnesota game when you were on break!

Quick question, I know that last year after they started chanting "you suck!" when they announced the other teams players they sent some email out about how we are better than that and to chant "go state!" instead. Well last night when they were doing the U-N-I chant it was followed by "sucks!" Wonder if the slap on the hand is coming again about showing some more class. Personally I think it's kinda funny but I also worry if that stuff continues we'll get a bad rep of being classless fans. We all have ranted and raved about other school's fans but let's not being throwing rocks at glass houses if we turn around and do the same.

Again, love the energy and hope they continue to keep packing the alley because this team is going to need all the support it can get this season!

So they give the whole "sportsmanship" speech at the beginning of each event, but what exactly does the hypocritical organization known as the NCAA do about it if it's bad?

Students at ANY school would add "sucks" to the end of an opponents chant... not a big deal IMO.

There were mixed feelings amongst the crowd. I thought it was funny.

Sat in the parquet behind the UNI bench - even their cheerleaders were laughing.

I'm all for having a raucous, out-of-control student section. Sportsmanship is for the players, not the fans. I'm sorry but having rules on what you can/can't do in the student section is very restrictive and will hurt our "homecourt advantage" in the long run. As long as students aren't on the court I think they're fine. What's that old saying about sticks and stones?? People like to talk about how great & respectful their fans are but in reality you really have to have some hellraisers to be intimidating to the other team AND officials. I was pretty disappointed to not see anyone going nuts on the refs after a couple of those calls/no-calls on Coleman. Whether the calls were right or wrong, you've got to try and influence a "makeup" call and I firmly believe that a crowd can have a major effect on that.

Oh some of us up in 226 last night were saying some things about the Coleman calls but clear up there in the balcony we can be hard to hear.

Don't get me wrong, I'm split on the whole thing because like I said I think its funny but on the other side of the coin how many times have we talked here about how we can't stand another school's crowd/fans or how they were classless or what not. I just don't want us to get the same kind of rep.

I understand where you're coming from. I wouldn't want our fans to have some terrible reputation for being constantly obscene or anything. It's weird being up in the balcony...you never know if you should yell about anything or not. You don't want to be "that guy" who yells at the refs with no chance of them hearing it, however you also don't want to appear complacent with a call that you think ISU got screwed on. I smell a philosophical memoire being written on this subject...

I'm all for being classy, particularly in Hilton. Basketball games often have a lot of kids in attendance, and there's no need for unnecessary profanity (especially loud enough for said kids to hear).

That said, I don't believe anybody, EVER, should be able to walk into OUR house and have an audible chant. I don't care if it's "U-N-I" or "Rock Chalk Jayhawk", it should NEVER happen. Shutting their cheerleaders up during the silence was possibly the only enjoyable thing about that game.

Wouldnt have been hard last night.... I think I heard Lucca talking to some hot chick from my seat in section 202. The whole concept to win by cheering has been lost to cheering by winning.

I thought it was funny. I was so pissed at that point, i didn't care what was being said. I yelled a lot worse things at the refs during the game. I was simply to the point where i didn't care if i got kicked out of the game for yelling profanity.
That being said... With all of the children around and how most people would like to keep cyclone alley classy and clean, i only get mad and yell profanity if the outcome was like last night. Losing to UNI and some poor calls just adds fuel to the fire. Other than that, i like to keep it within reason. (i.e. slapping a chair or something)

For me it was remarkably fun, I agree with superfan, nobody should be able to do that and I think we reminded them that it is probably not a good idea to start that chant again.

There are way worse things we can say than SUCKS, for the most part I think we are pretty well behaved, the only time we really misbehave any is during "Don't Know The Words" and BULL ****, which someone was complaining we didn't do enough of last night. But we probably should have.

We used to have an even worse one than bulls*** when I was in school that I haven't heard in awhile. "The refs **** sheep!" was one we used after some bad calls we didn't like and that one has disappeared the past few years I noticed. Used to be able to hear that loud at Jack Trice. Now that is not classy but the refs probably got the point we weren't happy!

I loved the SUCKS chant and in general the Alley. Don't let anyone chant it up in our house!

EXACTLY - LOVED the "sucks" chant, wish we'd do "unsportsmanlike" stuff more often, seriously.

Ahhh the Refs **** sheep, haven't heard that one in a while...

I had to laugh last night, during one of the breaks someone that had been heckling the refs all night long said something supportive to one of the refs. He just blinked his eyes like he couldn't believe what he heard and turned around.

As for being classy... I usually support classiness. Given a chance for positive cheering over negative cheering, I choose positive (case in point, insted of yelling "Sucks" after U-N-I, I tried to get an I-S-U chant going. Didn't quite work... but yeah)

However I believe in friendly harassing too, and I got some dirty looks for harassing T.C. last night (from C.A.C.) Funny thing, atleast one thing I did last night that got a dirty look I did last year to Herky in Iowa City, and they put a picture of it on the CA website. I would expect one of those slap on the hand e-mails to be sent out...
