He looked solid and the safeties looked solid.

An interesting one for me is how do we corral Sam Laporta their TE? I vote to put a guy like Anthony Johnson on him - b/c he will not outrun that guy.... Anthony J is also a sure tackler. I think Laporta is really close to one of the only threats on offense they have. If we bottle him up that hurts Iowa for sure.

Also - I hope to see more run blitzes and blitzes overall. Their offense stinks, so attack it. We need to keep them off the field.

Hard disagree. Look at the game changing plays over the past 15 years for Iowa and I bet you will find a bunch of over aggressiveness by our defense leading to a lack of QB containment leading to big plays for Iowa. Stay at home, let Petras outthink himself sitting in the pocket instead of letting his instincts take over in a scramble situation.

My apologies for the rapid posts in here today. I’ve been silent since Saturday. I just don’t see Iowa being as ****** as they were last week, and I see a lot of people who are expecting it.
I doubt they will be as ******, but do you expect them to make a quantum leap? Their offense has been pretty bad for a while now with no real reason to expect major improvement.

Throw everything out of the window is my go to mindset for this game. They are going to slow play us so hard. What do you do when your QB sucks? They won’t let him do anything against us. They will run off tackle all day then try to throw in some jet sweeps and bootlegs when they think we’re lulled to sleep. Definitely going to see a fake punt out of them this week.

I don’t know what to expect. I just hope we don’t use a bunched offense. I liked that we targeted WRs last week. Only 4 catches by TEs, if you include Rus a TE. I didn't look real close, but I assume that means not many multiple TE sets.

I don’t mind multiple TE sets, but hate it against Iowa. Plays right into what they want to do defensively.

I would expect it to look a lot like last week IMO. Last year we had great tight ends and a QB who was somewhat limited down field. This year we don't have the same tight ends, solid WR group, and a QB with a live arm. I would expect the same offense as last week with some added wrinkles. I agree with you. If we try to play Iowa in a phone booth we will definitely lose.

Hearing that if Petras craps the bed, the Hoks are bringing in Chuck Long.

I could've sworn I saw that they switched qb's and it wasn't to Padilla. Maybe I'm dreaming things.
I sure haven't seen or heard that, but would love a link if someone has it. Maybe you are hearing the collective will of the Hawkeye fan base.

Have you ever seen Petras scramble? I'd say pressure him, I'm 60 and was never fast and I think I may be able to outrun him. I think that is their main problem, O-line not as good as the past, QB who is pretty stationary and when you add not accurate I think you should bring pressure. We will see Saturday!

There was a WRNL parody article that said Iowa was going to start their punter at QB and punt on all 1st downs. But the headline was vague enough that if someone only read the headline, they wouldn't have realized it was a parody. Fooled my brother-in-law. :)

We have an all-American defensive end who was non-existent against a sun belt team. I know he was doubled all day, but that should leave at least someone unattended. SEMO had 38 pass attempts and their QB had 12 carries. That’s 50 plays and we had zero sacks and just 3 ToL.
You do realize our 3 defensive lineman are going up against 5 offensive linemen?

Iowa will look a little better on Saturday. The million dollar question is how much worse will ISU look?

Ever seen Nate Stanley scramble? That guy looked like a sea lion on flat concrete but he freaking killed us out of the pocket.
