Could it be that Gable is jealous of Cael?

I think Gable is upset that Sanderson went undefeated in college and is now known as the best college wrestler of all time. I really don't think his ego can handle that he is now the second best off all time. This is one reason I think when Cael took the ISU job that Gable jumped back into coaching again, to beat Cael and the Clones.

Right on BRO!! I would bet my life and I know its not worth much at my advanced age, that you are RIGHT!!

Gable's EGO is bigger than the World, & he can't take being the 2nd best of ALL TIME!!:yes4lo:

After Gable went to the mat, he fingered Cael. Even Cael thought it was hilarious. He already has asked for a picture of it, if available.

I think you meant that he gave Cael the finger. If he actually fingered Cael, it would not have been fit for Iowa Public Television...

Ahhh yes...the nuiances of the English language! It reminds me of some of those headlines that get sent into Jay Leno...

I am an ISU fan, but come on... Gable is s living legend. Cael is awesome, but at this point he is no Gable.... 9 straight NCAA championships, tied for longest stretch in any college sport. Whether Gable lost one match or not doesn't make him a worse wrestler then Cael. In my mind they are equal as wrestlers, but Dan has also shown he is the ultimate coach. No coach in any sport has done what he did by totally changing a sport. Dan was the face of wrestling and brought it national respect.

Not saying Cael can't do what Dan did as a coach, but up to this point he hasn't had near the positive impact that Dan has on on wrestling.

I think having Cael provides another opportunity for the sport of wrestling going forward that Dan can no longer provide, but when lining the two up and picking the most influential person ever in wrestling, Dan wins by a landslide.

I hope in 15-20 years I can say differently, but it's going to take at least 6-7 years before we can even start making that comparison and Cael's going to have to produce amazing results to do so.

Now was/is Dan crazy is another story. I think you have to be to do what he has done. Normal people don't win all but one college match, win a gold medal without even letting the opposition score, and then go onto coach a team to 9 straight NCAA titles. Heck, after he lost his final match in college, he almost lost it (drinking, etc..) and only his passion to come back and win gold got him out of his funk. I'm sure he is not normal.

Not just hunger, it was OBSESSION. He has been quoted as saying he would wake up at night and do push-ups and sit-ups and go back to sleep, because, "The Russians might be training." :eek4wd: He said he wanted to win every match with conviction, leaving nothing up to the referees.

Utter respect for his competitiveness, but man, is he insane.

How many of you who make such ridiculous post about Gable, even know the situation. Either his life, his wrestling or his coaching. Let's just suffice he is one of ISU greatest legends. He was given an opportunity at Iowa and seized it and the rest is history. Why do you think they made a quick decision to get Cael under wraps as head coach. ISU could not afford to lose him, like they did the first legend.

I do believe he is a heart attack waiting to happen.

Dan is a better coach, but I feel Cael's wrestling stats are better than Gable's

Really? You think the greatest wrestler ever, the same wrestler who never ever lost a meet, has better stats than Gable? What a mind boggling observation you just made there.

I don't believe that Dan has any boys, I think just girls. Could you image as a boy, having Dan as your father. That would be intense.

I wonder if he would have his 5 year old boy out running at 5:00 AM before school, lifting weights during lunch break, only to come home after school and practice take-downs until supper, maybe a 1/2 hour of free time (no basketball allowed), and then some quick shuttle runs before bed time.

I met Dan the day he enrolled at ISU.
I don't think he has any special hatred against Cael or Iowa State - he is just so intense he wants to beat everybody all the time.
I remember a story from a few years ago when he was head coach. He scheduled a 2 week family vacation in Hawaii after the season. Left after 3 days because he couldn't stay away from work any longer.

Gable the worst thing to EVER happen to college wrestling

Yep, and I think I can say it with a straight face. He built Iowa wrestling into such a dominating during the 70s and 80s that it diminished the sport as a whole.

Once Title IX began to be enforced colleges were forced to cut money somewhere to fund women's sports. When they got to wrestling they looked at Iowa and thought Why Bother competing against them.

Food for thought...

at times Gable looked like he was going to go out on the mat and join the match as much as he was getting into it. Brands meanwhile just kind of sat there for the most part.

Brands is nothing more than a strawman...we all know who the REAL Iowa coach is...Captain Insano Dan Gable.

Well all know collegiate wrestling is the WWF's minor league. Before long they'll be banging each other over the head with folding chairs to the delight of sreaming grey hairs. I can already see next year's headline: Head-banging, bone-jarring, mayhem and madness at the Hilton!
And then a hockey game will break out...
