Could it be that Gable is jealous of Cael?

I think Gable is upset that Sanderson went undefeated in college and is now known as the best college wrestler of all time. I really don't think his ego can handle that he is now the second best off all time. This is one reason I think when Cael took the ISU job that Gable jumped back into coaching again, to beat Cael and the Clones.

I don't know about all that, but Gable is certifiably INSANE. He was practically frothing at the mouth yesterday, and appeared to be in dire need of a straight jacket. At one point it looked like Brands (also a nutjob) had to hold Gable back from joining a match. Those guys are freakin insane, been hit on the noggin a few too many times.

That's just the way they are, all fire and brimstone. Obviously it works.

I started watching the meet right after the second match and when I turned to channel to IPTV, the first thing I see is Gable in the center of the match taunting someone on the ISU side. Anybody else see that or know what was going on?

I have a customer who was wrestling at ISU when Gable was there and he always said how Gable had eternal energy and was certifiably insane in some of the stuff he would do.

I remember hearing during a Gable interview once that he said one of his biggest regrets of retiring was not being able to coach someone to beat Cael.

I don't follow wrestling but saw some of it while eating after the b-ball game. One time Gable went clear over by the ISU side and him and Cael looked like they were getting into it. Crazy! I'm sure some of it was show but man at times Gable looked like he was going to go out on the mat and join the match as much as he was getting into it. Brands meanwhile just kind of sat there for the most part. Very entertaining to say the least for someone that doesn't really watch wrestling.

Gable has a well known reputation as to his intensity. That is was has driven his success as an athlete and coach. His record speaks for itself. But, he may end up having a heart attack the way he is back at it again. My feelings are that he saw Cael as the ultimate wrestler to coach against - he could of had that chance if he truly wanted it. The turmoil within the Iowa wrestling program prevented that at the time. Now the old school is back n session over there and the rivalry is back.

Based on the results of the match yesterday - ISU's intensity need to increase with a few of the wrestlers.

After Gable went to the mat, he fingered Cael. Even Cael thought it was hilarious. He already has asked for a picture of it, if available.

Are you sure you were watching the ISU-IOWA match? that sounds like something you would see on the SPICE channel, (not that I would know or anything):dull8ay:

I LOL when I read that. :laugh8kb:

Lets hope to God there is no picture available...

what turned Gable so off on Iowa State. He was one of our greatest wrestlers and then turned Hawk and now completely hates the University and Cael Sanderson for being better than he was. What prick, what makes some of the best athletes is their graciousness to accept defeat and acknowledge that the other athlete was better than them on that certain day or during that time frame.

Thats a good question. I don't know much about the history of our wrestling program with respect to what turned Gable against us. I assume it is just the heat of the rivalry between the schools and the determination to beat any and all opponets.

Was there an specifc event or events that made him so angry? Is he jealous of Cael? Sometimes it sure seems that way.

If he has a reason to hate our University then let it be, but to be a prick to Cael like others were saying what he did during the match in unacceptable. He is still a great wrestler just not the best.

Gable was refused a job as a coach after the Olympic Games. He had asked to come on the coaching staff, but was refused, and was instead offered a job buying meat for the training table. Here's the link, about halfway down the page, they have a brief history of ISU wrestling. LINK

Basically, after that, Gable decided he would coach elsewhere. I think a lot of that is still with him.

How many of you guys were at the meet? It takes two to tango and Hartung and Cael were not blameless. This was really a disappointing performance. We got our butts kicked. Until we can match their intensity that is going to continue to happen.

Making fun of Gable is ridiculous -- he is one of our school's greatest alumni. He put wrestling on the map in the 1970's. Making fun of him makes our fan base look really childish.

Cael is a great wrestler -- obviously the verdict is still out on his coaching ability. What is really concerning is that Brands didn't even have his best wrestlers out there -- 3 of them are redshirting from Va Tech.

I don't believe Gable was given a shot at the job at ISU because we had coach Harold Nichols who had been our coach since 1954. He ended up coaching at ISU for 32 years winning 6 national titles, 11 runner-ups, and 8 third place finishes. My dad attended Iowa State from 1968-1973, and he said that Gable didn't have the reputation that you would want to lead your program, except for on the mat. It worked out well for Iowa (something like 15 national titles), and I think Gable is still upset about being snubbed by ISU.

The only person that saw Gable give Cael the finger was Cael. Gable claimed he gave him the "arm", whatever that means.

If he did give him the finger, I'd like to see a pic.
