Moving on Up.

Nice, decent size town on the prairie. You could do worse like Minot. I-29 south is okay. Couple good reservoirs in the area. Walleye. Closer to Black Hills. Peasant hunting. Ice Fishing. Dog country. You can always move in a few years.
Way closer to great hunting and fishing if that is a factor.

Look out, peasants!

The original condition is the same everywhere. The owner owns it until someone buys it, government included. I have no idea if they are active doing this in SD. Usually when land develops there are easements or outlots created to protect the floodplain.

If your family isn't in town 2 or 8 hours may not be a huge deciding factor unless your visiting often. Also, most of us don't make Freddy money. When you make a lot, making a lot more may not matter. Not always the case among us average Joes.

My wife and I will also be leaving Iowa City in June, also looking forward to being in a place with far fewer Hawk fans and a radio station that carries Iowa State Athletics again.

The girlfriend and I just left the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area last June. Definitely glad to be moved on from that area as well.

I've spent several weeks in SF for work and I like the place. Take away the University of Iowa and I'd say Iowa City and SF are somewhat comparable. The cold and snow suck and is worse than Iowa.

I live in Sioux Falls. we can always use some more cyclone fans around here. There are more Cy fans than you would think in Sioux Falls. I think its a nice place to raise a family. Not a lot of bad traffic. If you are an outdoors type person there is good fishing and hunting fairly close. I do think the winter is a little colder than central IA. I think it is pretty much always 5 to 10 degrees cool than center IA. A while ago someone mentioned something about a cyclone game watch in Sioux Falls but it never really got going.

I really like Sioux falls and have considered moving there before. Its just a smaller, colder version of Des Moines. Otherwise very good place to raise a family.

Wife thinks she maybe getting a job offer in Sioux Falls. What is the main portion of the economy in the area? What about the schools (kids under 8)? Can anyone comment on what looks like a ton of trails around town? TIA

They have a booming medical industry, after that I don't know much about other industries in the area.

Great disc golf course and NICKS GYROS!

There is a lot of good food in Sioux Falls, but I have to say Nick's is really disappointing for a gyro place. Good, but not great.

There is now a Potbelly and a Costco in town which is nice. It's a good town with a lot of amenities considering the size. Great medical care.

I'm in SF for work now and regularly. It does get colder and snow comes about two weeks earlier and stays two weeks later. It's a conservative state politically. Even an elected democrat might be more conservative than a Cali republican. They have a nice trail system that goes around the town with access from all different parts. Kind of like a wheel and spokes. Denny Sanford has given millions to the town in facility and hospital donations. So they have NBA DL, arena fb and lower level hockey. Must be lots of Cyclone fans here because some stores have a better selection than their Des Moines counterparts.
