Self has had very good track records with this type of player. To say he was totally outmatched as a freshman is one thing, but he was going to be a good player. Self does better with a player like this than a one and done.

I'm glad Mason is your point guard now who could not beat out Tharpe. Better hope Graham is the real deal.

And Frankamp couldn't beat out Mason so...

I don't know. Keiton Page was 5'9", somewhat pudgy, and not that fast. I would say he did alright against the rest of the Big12 for years.

Very true, however there is a major difference between Page and Frankamp. Whatever anyone said, Page knew he only had to prove it to himself, and had the nuts to do it. Frankamp is a really good shooter. He was very good...in high school. I did not watch the tournament game some are pointing to as his coming out party, so I can't comment on that. I can say, definitively, he looked "scared" out there when he was given a chance...in the games I saw. Deer in headlights.

I know a certain poster gets a lot of grief around here, deservedly or not, but he's right about this kid. He had no business at this level. None. Is he more "talented" than Keiton Page? I don't know that, but I do know Keiton Page belonged out there, and that is pretty much all upstairs.

Who cares. It's an exhibition. And who are these so called "reports" from?
"This was disappointing news to us. Conner is a fine young man, a very good basketball player and certainly part of what we had envisioned not only our future but also as an impact guy for this upcoming season,â€￾ Self said, indicating he would have been “definitely been part of our rotationâ€￾ and “playing significant minutesâ€￾ during the 2014-15 season, which opens Monday versus Washburn.

In fact, Self said he would have started in the exhibition on Monday night.

Self also said that the photo posted online of Naadir Tharpe hooking up with some skanky, married woman played no role in Tharpe's transfer to "spend more time with his daughter". Amazing that a few months later Tharpe is trying out for D-League teams. I guess a few months at home was enough and he was ready to get back on the road, or...

I think you're right. One think we could definitely agree on was that Page was a freakin baller. I hated when we played against him, but if he was a Cyclone I would have loved the kid. Thinking about this some more, TwoCoach might be right on this one. Playing as Selden's backup probably carried a lot of pressure (even though Selden did not do that much last year).

One thing I did notice about Frankamp was that the times he was out there was mostly as a PG. Maybe he just did not feel comfortable at that position?

He played more minutes at PG because Tharpe was easier to take out than Selden. Frankamp did a good job of not turning the ball over much when he as out there which was a nice change from Tharpe.

Unless there's some reason that's not being stated, of course Frankamp is transferring because he doesn't expect to get the playing time/role that he wants. Surprised there's even a debate on this.

The fact that nice things were said afterwards simply shows that Self is being professional and trying to help the kid out; I wouldn't put too much stock into the specifics.

Asks for a source...gets source...calls BS...wonders why he's not wanted here.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

PS- thread is way longer than warranted for the subject matter.

Self's statement was pure, calculated PC meant to show future recruits that a Top 50 recruit was going to get playing time. It had nothing to do with the reality of Frankamp's situation or the next exhibition game. I think we all understand what is expected in public comments by high end coaches. To take it at its word is naive.

Anyone that thinks Frankamp was going to be starting by the B12, or that this is a big loss for KU, is looking at this with Cardinal and gold glasses.

Self was simply trying to keep the kid engaged if he was actually slated to start the exhibition. He took the high road in his comments but he is not going to lose much sleep with the talent he has in Lawrence.

You asked for the source and you chose to ignore it. You can spin it anyway you like it. You may be correct but it still came from the coach's mouth.

The reality of the situation is that none of us know why he is transferring, so stop pretending otherwise. Conners statement has no more weight than Selfs, or the myriad other reasons for transferring (Justin Hamilton "I want to be closer to home")

the bottom line is: this is an unusual and costly time to transfer. If McKay's rules apply the decision will cost him 1/8th of his college career. There is likely something more to it than what is being said.

In other words, you would be as effective as Frankamp was in playing defense. Bless his heart, I loved Connor for being a local kid looking to realize his dream of playing for KU but he was in over his head out there.

I watched all the ku games at the end of the year and this statement is so wrong. To play like he did as a true freshman who you are right is undersiezed, was very impressive. There were a couple of games were he looked far more solid than half the team. Undersized kids probably have the biggest growth as players because they have to get used to plaing with the big boddies. With what he showed as a true freshman, good things are in store for him

Self had to upgrade his front court, especially with ball handling defensive guards to counteract Hoiberg's game.

frankamp seems like a perfect WSU fit, but I wonder if Nebraska or even Kim Anderson at Missouri could be a landing spot.

He'll be eligible after first semester next year, which means transferring now costs him a total of about 9 regular season games of eligibility. Not exactly "costly" considering that his only other option was to stay at KU and sit way down on the bench, wasting 30 regular reason games of eligibility.
