So he's slated to start, but you come out and claim he was their 11th man. Interesting.

Slated to start by whom? No one with any knowledge of this year's KU basketball team. When a kid comes out and states "We have many good guards and so many big-time players. I want to be at a place where I could play a bigger role" then I am pretty confident that he wasn't slated to start at preseason #5 Kansas. One would assume that starting PG for a top five Kansas team would count as a big role. He came out of preseason practice as the third string PG behind Graham and Mason and third string SG behind Selden and Mykhailiuk.

Why are there reports he was going to start the exhibition then?

If any statement in this thread is racist, it's this one.

twocoach compares Frankamp to Custer only because the two are white.... because if he knew anything at all he'd know that their games are not that similar.

If anything, Frankamp would compare to Naz Long or Matt Thomas.... 2 guards that can shoot, but not a whole lot else.

Custer is a PG. And he is very quick with the ball. So IMO, it's also a racist statement to say that Custer is slow as well... he's not. He's gone up against some of the best high school talent in the country and he gets pretty much wherever he wants to off the dribble.

I compare him to Custer because he is a skinny, 6'0" white kid from Kansas. I agree that Custer is more of a PG and Frankamp is more of a SG but it doesn't matter. Neither is big enough or athletic enough to a major minutes type player at either ISU or Kansas.

Oh, heavens. Chill on the racist card. It's old and played out. Don't think for one second that what Custer did in HIGH SCHOOL matters; it doesn't. Connor Frankamp was the leading scorer on the 2012 Team USA U17 team that included Jabari Parker, Jahlil Okafor, Justice Winslow, Stanley Johnson, Dakari Johnson and Tyus Jones amongst others. It didn't me squat once he got to college. You either have the body for big time D1 basketball or you don't. Some guys win the genetic Powerball and some don't. Very few overcome NOT winning it.

All i know is I have an inch and 10 pounds on him and I'd get absolutely destroyed playing 30+ D1 games. Let alone trying to guard anyone.

In other words, you would be as effective as Frankamp was in playing defense. Bless his heart, I loved Connor for being a local kid looking to realize his dream of playing for KU but he was in over his head out there.

He was the only person that could do anything during the Stanford game. If he was over his head, wouldn't feel so high on your returning talent. Once Self put him in a spot to be successful he was pretty good. Glad he left - would be the typical KU senior that kills us, Reed/Morningstar esque.

I think part of it also depends on the offensive system. There have been many successful D1 players 6ft or shorter that even made it to the NBA. With his lack of size, the coach would have to draw up plays to free him up/set screens for him. Unfortunately, when you have as many inside offensive weapons as Kansas has, there is no point in spending time trying to free up a shooter. You can just use the SGs that can shoot over the opponent and just focus on the inside game.

At another school (maybe even a top 25 school), he'll probably find better opportunities to be a more focal point of the offense. I think he'll surprise a lot of people, because if he makes the right school choice, he'll have a successful career.

Are we really going to pull ONE GAME from a guy's year to base our projections?

3/4/14 @Baylor: Niang - 20 minutes, 2-11 fg, 0-4 3pt fg, 4 points, 2 rebounds, 4 fouls, 3 turnovers

Based off that ONE GAME, why on earth would anyone think that Niang is going to have a good year. Good grief.

Why did he wait so long to do this? If he was going to transfer he should have done it a month or 2 ago

Because they just started practice a few weeks ago and it wasn't clear that he was going to be the third stringer until now. Frankamp went into the off season with a legit shot at starters minutes but was passed up by Mason and then Graham at PG and it sounds like Mykhailiuk might be biting into his back up SG minutes behind Selden. BAsically where he was last year if not lower.

He wasn't going to be the third stringer, you don't know anything about basketball. I'm going to be so glad when we beat you twice this year.

I don't know. Keiton Page was 5'9", somewhat pudgy, and not that fast. I would say he did alright against the rest of the Big12 for years.

Self has had very good track records with this type of player. To say he was totally outmatched as a freshman is one thing, but he was going to be a good player. Self does better with a player like this than a one and done.

I'm glad Mason is your point guard now who could not beat out Tharpe. Better hope Graham is the real deal.

When discussing next year you talked about Frankamp as an asset to the team. Now he transfers and he was "in over his head out there?

Then why would he leave in search of "a bigger role"? How much bigger of a role is there for a 6'0" sophomore than in the rotation at a Top Five school? I think you guys are trying too hard to make this complicated. The guy standing over the body with the murder weapon is pretty much always the criminal. You don't need to give up a half season of eligibility and sit a year in search of a bigger role unless you aren't happy with your current role and Frankamp isn't insane, so I would assume that if he was one of the two PGs that will get the lion's share of minutes he would have been happy with that role.
