Certainly not bad at all, although all caps would have been better.

Of course, with the uniform scheme, white should be out, and honestly, why have we taken Cy off the helmet, and... (ending sarcastic schpiel now)

I actually tried all caps before settling on upper/lowercase. The all caps was tougher to read and didn't flow as well.

I did send a copy to Pollard. I'll be sure to let you know his response. I'm know I'm curious...

I'm curious as to what he'll say as well. I don't mind CYCLONES as long as it's not the fluffy font. If they're dead set on the fluff then I'm standing by my vote for I State (and I have no problem with white helmets).

The only reason why I mentioned all caps is because with everything I've seen with the new letterhead, everything is in all caps (have a look at cyclones.com - even the "lower case" are capital letters smaller than the "upper case")

The white helmets are no surprise given Pollard's background at Maryland & Wisconsin.

The current question revolves around what type of decal to put on the helmet. Specifically do you try to identify with the school name or the team name/mascot? The NFL teams almost all go with the team name/mascot. The Browns have nothing; the Bears, Packers, and Giants have city initials; the Chiefs have a hi-bred. The other 27 teams all feature their team name/mascot on the helmet.

College teams seem to be more evenly split between decal styles. The Big XII and the Big Ten both have a majority of the schools that feature the school initials, but there are still prominent examples of mascots on the helmets.

An interesting difference is that fans of a particular team tend to identify more with the team name - i.e. we are "Cyclones". From the outside, teams are identified more by the school - i.e. we play against Kansas or Colorado rather than the Jayhawks or the Buffalos. If you want to build more national identity, it probably makes more sense to go with either I-State or ISU rather than Cyclones.

Like I said in another thread, I'd be fine with a white helmet with almost anything on it if we had white or cardinal pants to go with it. It's just the white helmet with the gold pants looks like someone hired a C+ average graphic or apparel designer to design our uniforms. It's why I've said I don't mind the white helmet so much with the road uniforms - cardinal, not gold, pants.
